[!AltME] Discussion about AltME

Graham

[1107]
using LNS for file sharing?
Carl

[1108]
That is for the son of AltME, the great and powerful Altissimo.
Graham

[1109]
So, Altme is to be rewritten using LNS?

Gabriele must be working on that great and powerful version.

Carl - that is strange ... becuase last weeks, I got really two-time-the-week
recycle crashes, mainly while still syncing and pressing groups quickly
to "unred" them :-) No such problem with new beta yet .... but maybe
it is too early to tell, however surprised that it is build on 1.2.10
....
Altissimo, Rebol 3.0, new AltME build ... what a news are leaking
:-)
what happened to /Coop (whatever it was meant to be)? :-)
Graham

Pekr: on no recycle, just luck. It is not gone yet.
A lot going on. Coop is not dead, but we are going to build it differently,
and it has a lot of overlap with the REBOL Central idea. So, it
probably will be both those things somehow, but not until R3 is ready
(with R/S built in)

R3 roadmap announcement anytime soon now? :-)
Graham

this seems to be a bug.
I've got "anothersitename" above "As Graham" top left.
Logged on again, and now it says "Rebol3" above "As Graham".

Will there be any newer versions of R/S before R3?
Carl

The roadmap soon. I hope.
(Please post other questions in correct group.)
Graham: is anothersitename one of the worlds you log into?
So, the bug would be that it is showing the wrong world name even
tho u are in this world?
Graham

[1126]
Carl, yes, anothersitename is another world name .. only happened
once though.

I wondering for some time now..Why is there NO ALtME-Transport-Protocol
available?? Is there none or is it simply not yet secure enough to
give away? Or does it break the ALTME secrets ?...
Its a nice way to let people build plugins...

I'm using it on MacOSX and it runs very well, no crashes this far

henrik......cool! We have some bugs on Mac, but so far we are doing
pretty well.
Henrik

[1134]
there are a few issues though, but this might be related to rebol
itself, such as no carriage return on pasted strings
[unknown: 9]

[1135]
Yup.

Well, in fact it sort of "has to be" since it is the same source.

Running the new AltME beta under MacOSX here too. It works great
for me. :-)

Altme seems to halt more often (dooing nothing) and blanks the screen
lately (nice white board) ... Using linux version 1.0.2 .

We have one guy running OS X in our World. So far so good. This morning
we saw a message that he wasn't a member but I restarted the World
and all is well. My thought is that this was caused by my computer
going to sleep sometime during the night. I get other issues with
other programs so that's probably it.

PhilB. Links aren't working in OSX version yet and some issues with
the caret positioning while typing (its offset too far to the right
for some chars, makes you think you typed a space when you didn't,
but elsewise it seems pretty solid.

also something about the window going to the top every time a message
comes in, even if the setting has been deactivated in preferences

MM i dont see the last messages from yesterday...??? 1.0.2 has real
strange behaviours... or is it altme server?

Are you saying that you saw something posted yesterday, and today
it is gone?
[unknown: 10]
9-Mar-2006
[1144]
Yes... And I think that has something to do with a connection interruption
on my side... clapping Ethernet ;-) the sync was finished but did
not show it all.. I had to enter "something" in a group and then
I synced and showed me the messages...

thør has a message on the REBOL Googlegroup:

<<Could you please set up an account for me? I've been trying to
get in
for months now, but the guest/guest credentials seem to have been
disabled.>>

Seems a better method for promoting this world and enabling people
to join is overdue.

Graham, it says AltME version 1.1.25 here under OSX. Not sure, if
it's an alpha or beta release.
Pekr

1.1.27 downloaded now ... wonder about changes too ... changelog
anywhere?

.27 adds file history

thanks
maybe it would be nice to add the download dialog/decision before
it starts downloading. I know it is fast on most connections, but
slightly confusing on my GPRS - it seems like app is being blocked
"checking for updates", while actually it is already downloading
an update ... just a suggestion ...

Is there a way to create a shorcut to start a world?

I know the -w WORLDNAME to log on a world, but can't find how to
start a world this way in the doc.
Brock

yourpath/altme.exe -s "your world" -p Portnumber
In windows this is placed in the shortcut's target field.

Ok, updates are coming frequently now. It's 1.1.28 under OSX now.
I couldn't send messages just before, probably because a new version
was released. After closing and restarting AltME, I can send again.
:-)
Henrik

interesting that updates aren't checked until you log onto a world...
so updates are world specific?
