Can you not save files to the file share without forcing a sync?

big

files are not synced by default. however, think about a thousand
 small files (i.e. rebol scripts)

I'm thinking of just making it manual.
You don;t get any files until you ask for them.

Yes, sounds good.

Reichart, are you considering a one type synch of that file or an
option to allow auto-resynch's if the file changes?
with an ability for the user to list what files are auto-synched
and the date the file was last updated so they can turn it off if
they choose.

Over time, things will get more specific. But we want to keep things
as simple as poosible.

I got this when simply sending a message:
Server reported error in chat because of: User does not exist
Had to re-enter the user's message group to cure it

Anyone else here ever see that error?
That looks to me like your OS was locking a dir or file and so we
could not get to it.

But it says the server says so. That's running on Windows 98, by
the way :-/
Some unpractical behavior in adding a file. For starters, the file
selector (in Linux) opens one directory above the directory you're
in
The file selector is horrid, but in particular, I typed the name
of a new file, which happened to have spaces in it, but instead got
a number of files, for each part of the name. This is very unexpected

There does seem to be a problem with syncing when you install Altme.

Today I had was enjoying one of my too regular Windows installations
on my desktop. I installed altme beta. It synced only 8 chats. A
dot to myself forced a sync of all personal converstations. A dot
to Dot forced a sync of Dot.

So I removed the beta and installed AltME 1.0.1. It synced 10 chats.
A dot to myself forced a sync of all personal converstations. A
dot to Dot forced a sync of DevCon2005 because I posted in the wrong
place.
I can't remember this happening before Rebol3 was upgraded but I
could have a bad memory.

I've reinstalled both Windows and Linux on my machine. I'm only able
to run Altme 1.0.1 on Win (don't ask me why new beta crashes all
the time on clean installation while it was working without problem
on old one) and it synced no rooms. On Linux I have no problem with
latest beta and syncing works without problem. So I spent some nice
minutes clicking on red rooms (but it's better to have something
to click on than otherwise :)

Wow.........it crashes!?!

OK guys, you need to shove all this into the Feedback, becuase all
I do is copy and paste this stuff over to the site myself, since
it is built to track all of this.

Reichart: I'm pretty sure that this crash is in no way related to
AltMe or REBOL. Something mysterious happened to my computer and
lot of things that were working are not now. I don't know the reason,
but I'm sure it must be some HW fault.

After first reinstall I was not even able to run REBOL. I clicked
on icon and nothing happened. So I reinstalled second time and now
it's working (brr, not-working REBOL, that were really bad 5 minutes
:).

Rebolek, did you do any hardware changes to your machine recently
?

If not, maybe it's time to open the case and see if everything is
plugged in properly. Check RAM, PCI cards etc. are seated properly

Anton: Actually the only change I made was, that I moved my computer
by a meter or so. I've checked RAM with memtest and both GFX and
soundcard looks OK.

Sometimes just reseating the cards and/or RAM modules can fix them.
Heating and cooling of the components can raise them out of the their
sockets over time.

also cleaning the contacts helps (a rubber eraser is good for this)

A small hand-held vaccuum cleaner can help get rid of dust, which
might be slightly conductive.. :) I don't actually have one myself,
I just use a full-size vaccuum cleaner carefully :)

I got an "Invalid username or password" again, this time during starting
AltME and auto-login. It was accompanied by an error abort, which
I sent in to feedback
This time I had upgraded the server from 1.1.24, I think, to 1.1.28

julia, it's an old syncing problem that is well known
but apparently very hard to fix
Julia

and what i have to do?
Henrik
13-Apr-2006
[1425]
there is not much to do, but sometimes posting something in the dot
group helps syncing. sometimes logging out and in again helps, but
not always

here's an idea: how about some kind of softlinks to specific places
internally to AltME? Say I want to link to another group, a specific
check list or a calendar day, a bug report in a bug tracker or a
file in the filesharing tool.

I suggested a path notation to each message (or at least to a date)
some time ago.

On hte list already. We are looking into XPath type stuff right
now in fact for other stuff as well.
