Graham 31-Jan-2005 [873] | Sunanda is in the UK ... |
[unknown: 5] 1-Feb-2005 [874x2] | Does anyone know if REBOL works on WINPE (Windows pre-installation environment)? If so, is there a way to access the Hard Drive to do file recover operations with REBOL? |
In case anyone doesn't know what WINPE is - its a tool that large enterprises use for image installations/troubleshooting etc.. Very similiar to Barts PE which is a free version. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
Robert 1-Feb-2005 [876x2] | Does someone know xxcopy? That's a very nice tool. I'm searching for a clone of it. I need to find out changes between two directories A and B. Newer files in A should be copied to C and than all files copied from B to A that are different. |
I didn't found such a tool. I can make two way syncs but I need just to make one way sync and keep the files to-be overwritten if those were changed in the last 60 minutes...
Pekr 1-Feb-2005 [878] | I use Total Commander, as Explorere is unproductive crap ... TC does have sync tool ... |
Robert 1-Feb-2005 [879] | I need this one to be batch able from a script. |
Pekr 1-Feb-2005 [880x2] | hmm, that might be a problem then ... |
maybe TC can be batchable, it has lots of plug-ins also available, but the product is not small, nor is it free ...
[unknown: 5] 1-Feb-2005 [882] | Sounds like it could be easily done Robert in REBOL |
Henrik 1-Feb-2005 [883] | directory opus 8 has as similar function and is scriptable, I believe, but I can't be sure if it can be run from a cli |
Allen 1-Feb-2005 [884] | I wonder if Bo's LTC-Backup tool can do that? Checkout his folders on IOS/Developer |
Graham 1-Feb-2005 [885x2] | smooth-copy is it's current name |
it can do an incremental backup .. but I don't if it will or will not copy over a later file if they are different
Volker 1-Feb-2005 [887] | cp -au ? |
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [888x2] | it is creepy when this list gets sooo silent for long periods of time... |
long being a more than an hour... ;-)
yeksoon 1-Feb-2005 [890] | just need more pple in each different time zone |
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [891] | is it me or have the successive server failures reduced the amount of traffic here? |
Graham 1-Feb-2005 [892] | it's you. |
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [893] | :-) |
Graham 1-Feb-2005 [894x2] | There's no list traffic either, and no blog update |
Rebol is going into an early winter.
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [896x2] | I've been like that recently, I guess we are all very busy... which is not so surprising... |
but recent remark news means I am picking up programming threads...so I guess I'm not the only one with things just around the corner...
PeterWood 1-Feb-2005 [898] | I hope you're right Maxim |
Anton 2-Feb-2005 [899] | I've been busy here trying to pick up chicks. |
Maxim 2-Feb-2005 [900] | LOL |
JaimeVargas 2-Feb-2005 [901] | Anton you are lucky man... ;-) |
Anton 2-Feb-2005 [902] | I'm in my prime, so I ought to be :) |
PhilB 2-Feb-2005 [903] | Robert, I have used Beyond Compare I fopund it to be excellent. Dont think its Batchable though ..... |
Josh 2-Feb-2005 [904x2] | As Steve mentioned, I will probably been in Europe Mar 18-Apr 3. Going to London, then I will probably head to either France or Italy for a week. |
If anyone wants to be visited, let me know. :)
Ingo 2-Feb-2005 [906] | Just so that it is not overlooked, I just started a new group to talk about communications solutions for desaster relief goups |
Josh 3-Feb-2005 [907] | My friend and I are not necessarily sticking to France or Italy, but I would love to hear suggestions of places to see. |
Gabriele 3-Feb-2005 [908] | If you decide to come to Italy, I can try to reach you so we can meet. If you want to visit Rome, I have friends there who could probably show us the city around. I have an uncle living near Florence too. |
Robert 3-Feb-2005 [909x2] | I need such a sync/copy/tracking tool for Windows... |
IMO making a xxcopy clone can't be that hard but of course it takes some time... BTW: xxcopy is sold for 40 EUR per license and it seems to be the only tool with such a feature set.
Volker 3-Feb-2005 [911] | Aren't there unix-tools ported to windows? |
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [912x2] | MKS is one, Volker, but others, too. |
but then, just REBOL is better, not so hard to make the tools better
Robert 3-Feb-2005 [914x2] | Yes, I thought about using cygwin... would work but not an elegant solution for such a "simple" problem. |
Is there a way to type in an expression into Visual-Basic-Editor in Excel to get it evaluated? Something like the console in Rebol?
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [916x3] | Robert, I don't understand exactly what feature(s) you are looking for. If you can explain to me, I can tell you if I can do it. |
ah...reading earlier messages...
OK...I understand. Will put on my todo list ... thanks.
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [919] | Has anyone thought about advertisement kiosk network? Maybe kiosks are not the correct word. Let me explain. Some time ago I watched Scala Multimedia and how it is used, mainly in US. It can take sources from various parts and play them. The, when we at Xidys paid for one local media advertisement, it was some 5x7 cm and it costed us 5K CZK = 218 USD. Quite a lot of money, as it was just local paper, issued weekly. Then I visited other town and saw one advertisement pannel of one computer shop, it was that typical rolled kind of equipment, like watching panel at airport telling when planes take-off .... |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [920x2] | We are working on a product to compete with Scala. |
Wireless Dynamic Advertising, using LCD displays.
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [922] | I also found that each reality selling companies has own panels, just static, behind some window, mounted or wall etc. Then I got the idea of network of kiosks or at least LCD panels (they will be cheaper and cheaper), wi-fi connected. Then IOS could be used, some reblet produced, so that various companies could buy their advertisement time ... |
