Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [889] | long being a more than an hour... ;-) |
yeksoon 1-Feb-2005 [890] | just need more pple in each different time zone |
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [891] | is it me or have the successive server failures reduced the amount of traffic here? |
Graham 1-Feb-2005 [892] | it's you. |
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [893] | :-) |
Graham 1-Feb-2005 [894x2] | There's no list traffic either, and no blog update |
Rebol is going into an early winter.
Maxim 1-Feb-2005 [896x2] | I've been like that recently, I guess we are all very busy... which is not so surprising... |
but recent remark news means I am picking up programming threads...so I guess I'm not the only one with things just around the corner...
PeterWood 1-Feb-2005 [898] | I hope you're right Maxim |
Anton 2-Feb-2005 [899] | I've been busy here trying to pick up chicks. |
Maxim 2-Feb-2005 [900] | LOL |
JaimeVargas 2-Feb-2005 [901] | Anton you are lucky man... ;-) |
Anton 2-Feb-2005 [902] | I'm in my prime, so I ought to be :) |
PhilB 2-Feb-2005 [903] | Robert, I have used Beyond Compare I fopund it to be excellent. Dont think its Batchable though ..... |
Josh 2-Feb-2005 [904x2] | As Steve mentioned, I will probably been in Europe Mar 18-Apr 3. Going to London, then I will probably head to either France or Italy for a week. |
If anyone wants to be visited, let me know. :)
Ingo 2-Feb-2005 [906] | Just so that it is not overlooked, I just started a new group to talk about communications solutions for desaster relief goups |
Josh 3-Feb-2005 [907] | My friend and I are not necessarily sticking to France or Italy, but I would love to hear suggestions of places to see. |
Gabriele 3-Feb-2005 [908] | If you decide to come to Italy, I can try to reach you so we can meet. If you want to visit Rome, I have friends there who could probably show us the city around. I have an uncle living near Florence too. |
Robert 3-Feb-2005 [909x2] | I need such a sync/copy/tracking tool for Windows... |
IMO making a xxcopy clone can't be that hard but of course it takes some time... BTW: xxcopy is sold for 40 EUR per license and it seems to be the only tool with such a feature set.
Volker 3-Feb-2005 [911] | Aren't there unix-tools ported to windows? |
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [912x2] | MKS is one, Volker, but others, too. |
but then, just REBOL is better, not so hard to make the tools better
Robert 3-Feb-2005 [914x2] | Yes, I thought about using cygwin... would work but not an elegant solution for such a "simple" problem. |
Is there a way to type in an expression into Visual-Basic-Editor in Excel to get it evaluated? Something like the console in Rebol?
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [916x3] | Robert, I don't understand exactly what feature(s) you are looking for. If you can explain to me, I can tell you if I can do it. |
ah...reading earlier messages...
OK...I understand. Will put on my todo list ... thanks.
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [919] | Has anyone thought about advertisement kiosk network? Maybe kiosks are not the correct word. Let me explain. Some time ago I watched Scala Multimedia and how it is used, mainly in US. It can take sources from various parts and play them. The, when we at Xidys paid for one local media advertisement, it was some 5x7 cm and it costed us 5K CZK = 218 USD. Quite a lot of money, as it was just local paper, issued weekly. Then I visited other town and saw one advertisement pannel of one computer shop, it was that typical rolled kind of equipment, like watching panel at airport telling when planes take-off .... |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [920x2] | We are working on a product to compete with Scala. |
Wireless Dynamic Advertising, using LCD displays.
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [922x2] | I also found that each reality selling companies has own panels, just static, behind some window, mounted or wall etc. Then I got the idea of network of kiosks or at least LCD panels (they will be cheaper and cheaper), wi-fi connected. Then IOS could be used, some reblet produced, so that various companies could buy their advertisement time ... |
I am glad I am not the only one thinking along the lines ...
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [924] | yes, and enhanced show.r makes this an easy project to compete with things like Scala InfoChannel, esp. what REBOL networking does. Anyway, REBOL compositing engine was originally targeted for interactive televesion /video. |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [925] | the thing is - will it pay off? The cose of LCD, small PC, wi-fi, IOS ... and you need several places .... |
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [926] | Carl showed me once an old 486 he made do full motion, full color interactive television with a simple vanilla VGA card... |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [927] | Depends on the target customer. |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [928] | Steve: I am not sure I agree on Scala part. Until View parts are opened and more multimedia friendly, so better sync is possible, I will not use rebol for presentation. Still single Scala demo can cause wow effect when showing it to ppl in comparison to whatever else - I want smoothness, and that is unachievable using Rebol |
eFishAnt 3-Feb-2005 [929] | well, then others will beat you to it. |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [930] | Besides that - the question is, if using rebol for presentation is good thing - imagine some company will want to deliver its content themselves. Better let's prepare for deployment - someone will give you Scala presentation, someone flash one, someone .avi, etc. My idea is to be able to interface players (e.g. call it from shell, should be enough) |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [931] | Typical Scala systems cost between $500 (CPU), $650 (Scala License), and $$$$ for the LCD (A 50" can cost $10K). |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [932] | You don't need scala licence, no? I thought they have player, which is free of charge? |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [933] | No. Free Player. At least not until last year. I had all the reseller docs, but didn't become one. As I thought we could build something similar, and a lot cheaper. |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [934] | LCD cost is the biggest problem imo ... still most LCDs are really badly visible during the day. We investigate destroying one and produce high bright, adding some additional lamps into it .... |
JaimeVargas 3-Feb-2005 [935] | BTW. I think rebol can be used for making a product similar to Scala. Using the proper libraries to control WMP or Quicktime. Rebol will be in charge on syncing with the Contente Manager, and Scheduling the Player. |
Pekr 3-Feb-2005 [936x2] | Rebol will always be weak on smooth scrolling thing. It uses double buffering and it still can't compare even at 10% to what Scala is able to do fast and smooth ... |
Steve is right - if Cyphre or anyone else would build a Authoring tool for media rebol, it would be killer app ...
Chris 3-Feb-2005 [938] | You can do basic ad quality multimedia with View now. |
