Graham 11-Oct-2008 [1449] | Lol |
Anton 11-Oct-2008 [1450] | Always the optimist :) |
Brock 17-Dec-2008 [1451] | Peter: Great to see you've finally finished your translation and other work on the book. I look forward to hearing about the paper version. |
Maarten 17-Dec-2008 [1452] | Great. Let's hope this helps this spreads REBOL!!! |
PeterWood 18-Dec-2008 [1453x2] | Ashley: Thanks. I'll let Olivier know. |
Paul: I think the preview price is that of printed book which isn't available yet. Lulu.com displays prices in the currency set in your account.
Brock 20-Dec-2008 [1455] | I see someone has added a Business Group, for all those using the World Default groups. In there I see Ann-Reply, which should logically be close to the Announce group, no? |
Gregg 21-Dec-2008 [1456] | I don't follow Brock. What is World Default? |
Ammon 21-Dec-2008 [1457] | Right click any Divider... You'll see a setting for WorldMaster Dividers. It's the World Default and controlled by World Masters... |
Gregg 21-Dec-2008 [1458] | I use the Worldmaster Dividers option, but I don't see the words "World Default" anywhere. That's what I' was confused about. Now, how can I add the Announce group to the Business divider? The All Groups divider is too long to drag it with that open. |
Brock 22-Dec-2008 [1459x2] | ... get a bigger screen ;-). That's a good question. it should be feature that can be selected from the group name itself you would think. |
Hmm, maybe temporarily rename the group with a Z prior to the group name, then sort alphabetically and drag from the bottom of the list to the group in question?
PeterWood 29-Dec-2008 [1461] | amacleod: The cost of colour printing at Lulu.com seems to be 7 times as much as black & white printing. I guess that's the reason that most computer books are printed in black & white. |
amacleod 29-Dec-2008 [1462x2] | PeterWood, Hows the quality of the binding? Would it be better to buy the pdf version and have it printed and bound locally? I would not mind having access to the pdf too. and.. There is nothing worse than a cheap bound where the pages start falling out... |
I had a quick look at the previous chapters I bought. THe PDF's are also black and white. Shame!
Graham 29-Dec-2008 [1464] | Get the pdf ... and you can bind it as many times as you like. See Ladislav's notes on REBOL bindology. |
amacleod 29-Dec-2008 [1465] | Is that a pun? |
Graham 29-Dec-2008 [1466] | yes, it was a joke |
PeterWood 29-Dec-2008 [1467x2] | I haven't got a physical copy of the book yet, they take a long time to get ot my part of the workd.. I have a copy of another booked printed by Lulu.com, the binding seems no different from most books oyu buy in a bookstore. Does anybody else have any experience with Lulu.com books? |
It might be worth looking at the economics of a pdf printed and bound locally versus a Lulu.com printed book and shipping charges. The only difference is that the pdf does not include the cover. (This is due to the production process).
Henrik 29-Dec-2008 [1469x2] | I saw a German distributor who could make hardbacks from PDF files and even give them ISBN codes (perhaps Lulu does that too). I'll see if I can find some details on this soon. |
http://www.bod.de/index.php?id=200<-- ok, there is no English page, so it may not be useful to you.
PeterWood 29-Dec-2008 [1471x2] | Thanks Henrik that would be good. You can get an ISBN from Lulu.com but at the cost of 50% of the purchase price of the book going to retailers. Unless you are going to sell tens of thousands of books, it isn't worth it from the author's point of view. |
Thanks Henrik. Google is my friend.
Henrik 29-Dec-2008 [1473] | you're welcome |
Graham 2-Feb-2009 [1474] | This is the reply group for announce |
Will 2-Feb-2009 [1475] | too late.. 8) |
PeterWood 2-Feb-2009 [1476] | I guess it tries to send an email because of the @ in the URL. |
Reichart 2-Feb-2009 [1477] | I used the link at the top, odd... |
PeterWood 2-Feb-2009 [1478x2] | Rebol seems happy to interpret it as a URL : >> type? http://www.flickr.com/photos/[11338642-:-N00]/2309872444/ == url! >> read http://www.flickr.com/photos/[11338642-:-N00]/2309872444/ == {<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> |
AltME seems to interpret it as an Email address.
DideC 3-Feb-2009 [1480x2] | http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3031/2309872444_844f7663cd.jpg?v=0 Hey Reichart, a little bit of photoshop and you'll become our new Santa claus ;-) |
The proof : http://picasaweb.google.fr/lh/photo/t9rl6p0f5pwouWbdXLOMUg?authkey=AoDanuwCxPo&feat=directlink
Reichart 3-Feb-2009 [1482] | Now I know what I will look like in about 10 years. The guy on "my" left is Aubrey de Grey. He is one of only several people who "get it" on this planet. So he truly is one in about 1 billion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey_de_Grey The guy on my right is my friend Todd Huffman He is a computation biologist, and we are both co founders of www.BILConference.com One of his papers http://tinyurl.com/awq9tq I of course am now Santa. Of note, 12 hours after that photo was taken, I shaved my beard off completely on stage... Since people felt sorry for me, they went out and bout a bunch of beards, and everyone started wearing them... http://flickr.com/photos/quinn/2340803599/sizes/l/ |
Pekr 3-Feb-2009 [1483] | antiaging, huh? :-) |
Reichart 3-Feb-2009 [1484] | If you have to be anti something, aging seems like a good one, no? : ) |
Pekr 3-Feb-2009 [1485] | Of course, I just wonder if biology might help here. The topic is rather deep ... |
james_nak 3-Feb-2009 [1486] | So BIL is full. |
Mchean 3-Feb-2009 [1487x2] | hmm seems so, but maybe you can get on the wait list |
any plans to broadcast BIL like they do TED?
Reichart 3-Feb-2009 [1489] | 4 Media services will be broadcasting BIL. James, Michael, don't worry, just come on down and find me, tell them I told you to come. Pekr, yup, deep, that is why we need more of the 6 billion people on this planet to help : ) |
Mchean 3-Feb-2009 [1490] | thx Reichart, if i make it down their I'll ask for you. |
james_nak 4-Feb-2009 [1491] | Thanks Reichart. |
Reichart 5-Feb-2009 [1492] | http://bilconference.pbwiki.com/ We have a bunch of cool speakers, and a bunch of TED speakers of walking from TED (where it is $6K) over to BIL to give talks LOL |
Mchean 5-Feb-2009 [1493] | that is very cool |
DideC 6-Feb-2009 [1494] | (For those who missed it, the photo URL has changed) Baron Reichart "Santaclaus" Von Wolfsheild : http://picasaweb.google.fr/lh/photo/nclUeb_m1hMj6_3Zq7OBBw?authkey=AoDanuwCxPo&feat=directlink |
BrianH 6-Feb-2009 [1495] | (sorry, that was in the wrong group) |
Anton 18-Feb-2009 [1496] | Oldes, about ImageMagick interface, nice to know. I looked quickly at the code and I advise not to make structs inside the address? function etc. because it's quite slow compared to reusing an existing struct. (I tested this a few years ago when I was making fmod interface and needed speed.) |
PeterWood 18-Feb-2009 [1497] | Thanks from all of us, Oldes |
Gregg 24-Feb-2009 [1498] | I finally took a few minutes to look at it Oldes, but it can't load the DLL here. What version of REBOL and IM did you test under? |
