[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
Graham 9-Jan-2010 [4277] | Just filesize limit?? |
Pekr 9-Jan-2010 [4278] | http://www.altme.com/new.html |
Graham 9-Jan-2010 [4279] | wow ... over 1.5 years since last update |
Sunanda 9-Jan-2010 [4280] | 1.2.18 works fine from where I am. Let's hope it is a good sign for the future. Petr, we were asked for our top priorities some years ago....Let's hope too, that those requests are still on the work list: http://www.rebol.org/aga-display-posts.r?post=r3wp151x457 |
Pekr 9-Jan-2010 [4281] | Sunanda - thanks for posting the link, I forgot about those! |
Graham 9-Jan-2010 [4282] | Still eats posts |
Graham 15-Jan-2010 [4283x2] | Rebol3 now has its own dedicated server on linode .. but still seems slow :( |
that busy signal appears briefly and then blocks
Maxim 15-Jan-2010 [4285] | its been more responsive for me in genera.... but the world has disconnected a few times since its on the linode server. |
Carl 18-Jan-2010 [4286x2] | Seems a lot more response here (California) too. 16 hops. |
Whoa... this traceroute backbone hostname freaked me out for a sec: 5 ge-6-22.car1.SanFrancisco1.Level3.net (4.53.128.97) 47.905 ms 46.594 ms 47.027 ms (In console font 1 and l look the same.)
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4288] | AltME updated.... When you send a message, you will see the edit window retain the message until the server has echoed it. |
Pekr 19-Jan-2010 [4289] | now we need the most requested feature - one small button for "Mark everything read" :-) |
Graham 19-Jan-2010 [4290x2] | A welcome update for sure. |
let's type something here and now click on a group .... and this area goes black .. very unusual feature
Pekr 19-Jan-2010 [4292] | mark everything read could be done a bit differently maybe, via a setting. E.g. "Mark as read messages older than (days)" ... defaulting to let's say 3 days ... so that you would be able to see some recent discussions still marked red .... just an idea ... |
Sunanda 19-Jan-2010 [4293] | Graham -- This is what it looks like to me: -- if you press send and a stay in the group you are in: the entry area goes grey until receipt of the message is confirmed; then it returns to your default colours -- if you press send and navigate elsewhere quickly: it stays black until you send again (and stay in the same group) A minor glitch in a new feature. |
Graham 19-Jan-2010 [4294x2] | Hmm.. rebooting has fixed the issue I was seeing. |
Nope .. try this . Send a message. After it has been sent, click on the "M" and this area turns black
Gregg 19-Jan-2010 [4296] | Same here. |
Pekr 19-Jan-2010 [4297] | test |
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4298] | I get error windows when AltME is idle now. |
Pekr 19-Jan-2010 [4299] | I can see the black area even if you change groups, and also when I clicked http link ... |
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4300] | The area seems to turn black if the area loses focus. |
Will 19-Jan-2010 [4301] | Got a message Altme need a new version, downloading, dowload failed. with Altme intel osx, running the old PPC version works ok |
Sunanda 19-Jan-2010 [4302] | Yep -- also seeing black area at times. |
Terry 19-Jan-2010 [4303x2] | Should be working.. it's alpha though |
hmm.. that last message duplicated itself as i switched groups.. not digging the new "gray box" posting method
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4305x2] | Pekr: I could use that feature too. Where would the button be put, in the divider options panel perhaps? Henrik: 1.2.20 fixes that bug. Will: what download failed? On auto update or exe? Terry: can you explain "duplicated itself"? Do you mean it was sent twice? |
Others: yes, odd. Input area seems to go black on loss of focus.
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4307x3] | Upgraded to 1.2.20. So far, nothing exploded. |
I see a duplicate message in the REBOL3 group by shadwolf.
Mark everything read: I suggest more room in the area where the icons are in the upper left corner for a row of buttons, where the "mark" button could be situated. That leaves room for more options.
Pekr 19-Jan-2010 [4310] | Carl - the small button can be put in front of "B" (bold) button .... |
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4311x2] | I wonder if the dup msg was perhaps caused by hitting return twice (during a long delay)? |
I just tried it, but seems to be ok.
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4313] | Testing duplicate message |
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4314] | Pekr: such a button be better somewhere in the area as noted by Henrik, not in the edit window icons. |
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4315] | Carl, I found it. Try hammering the send button many times. |
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4316x2] | Ah, confirmed. An interesting thing. The feature is intended to allow sending again... as a way not to lose the message when "Internet Busy" happens. |
(I look forward to the day when AltME can use R3 with the new rebdev comm methods!)
Henrik 19-Jan-2010 [4318] | Carl, did you see the discussion with YueM? A new user who won't use AltME, because he claims it's broken, when in fact it's simply downloading all messages, which takes time and he can't post in the meantime. To him, the program appears unstable. An intended feature, I know, but maybe there could be done something to allow bulk downloading on first connect to a world. |
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4319x4] | Yes, it presents an interesting problem... to enter a large world like this with so many prior messages. |
I've been thinking about this problem for R3 Chat, and I have a solution that I think would work well. It's essentially the same idea as virtual memory, where older messages are not loaded until the user asks to read them.
Interesting, I just tried changing message groups while my message was pending (gray).
So -- it causes the msg to remain gray, and does not get cleared. But, it can be edited and resent.
Sunanda 19-Jan-2010 [4323] | It'sa known problem :) [though it should read ... stays gray untl you send again] http://www.rebol.org/aga-display-posts.r?post=r3wp151x4293 |
Graham 19-Jan-2010 [4324] | Time on this is distracting from R3! |
Carl 19-Jan-2010 [4325] | Well... whatever pays the bills, no? |
Graham 19-Jan-2010 [4326] | Does Altme earn income?? |
