[!AltME] Discussion about AltME

Anton 5-Jul-2010 [4616] | I think it would really only make a performance increase for initial downloads of new users. |
BrianH 5-Jul-2010 [4617] | Also, many of those groups contain valuable information. It's almost always a bad thing to delete a group, losing the history. |
Paul 5-Jul-2010 [4618x3] | It's almost always a bad thing to delete a group? Are you serious? What is so bad about it? |
Ok, keep your REBOL Trash then.
Because I'm sure noobs come here and see a bunch of junk.
Gregg 6-Jul-2010 [4621] | I don't know how much we woudl gain Paul, and I do consider when and what to clean up from time to time. Your point is noted. |
yeksoon 8-Jul-2010 [4622x2] | I am working on Linux.is there a way to increase the font size |
? | |
NickA 8-Jul-2010 [4624] | Click the icon with the little A and big A, directly above the text entry area. |
yeksoon 8-Jul-2010 [4625] | Thanks NickA. It helps (at least for the main discussion area). Anyway to change the font size for the panel on the left as well (where it shows the Groups)? |
Anton 8-Jul-2010 [4626] | I am pretty sure that's not an implemented feature. |
Graham 11-Jul-2010 [4627] | Can admin please reset xavier's password ... |
Sunanda 12-Jul-2010 [4628] | ... Done, Graham. |
Andreas 14-Jul-2010 [4629] | Slower than usual for everyone or is it just me? |
amacleod 14-Jul-2010 [4630] | fine here |
Andreas 14-Jul-2010 [4631] | . |
Graham 14-Jul-2010 [4632] | It's working okay for me too ... well, the usual delay is present |
Andreas 14-Jul-2010 [4633x2] | The usual delay increased to multiple seconds for me. Well, ... |
fingers crossed that it'll get better soon :)
Graham 14-Jul-2010 [4635] | Stop torrenting for a while .. see if that helps |
Maxim 14-Jul-2010 [4636x3] | its up and down... was annoying earlier... seems better right now. |
about 0.75s now. | |
and sometimes, instantaneous.
Andreas 14-Jul-2010 [4639x3] | . |
2.6s for me | |
A signal to leave AltME alone for now, and do something more productive :)
Graham 14-Jul-2010 [4642x2] | I downloaded http://www.intellipool.se/their networking monitoring tool to try out ... |
We need a more specific tool to monitor rebol services and servers
Henrik 23-Jul-2010 [4644] | I've received an update. Something with checklists not updating properly has been fixed. |
Graham 23-Jul-2010 [4645] | I clicked on the button to show me the details and then it didn't offer to update again |
Anton 23-Jul-2010 [4646] | It took me to this page http://www.altme.com/new.html Are you stuck on an older version than 1.2.25 ? |
Graham 23-Jul-2010 [4647] | 1.2.24 ... |
Henrik 23-Jul-2010 [4648] | I have 1.2.25 here. |
Sunanda 23-Jul-2010 [4649] | I had the same thing Graham.....But when I restarted AltME, it was 1.2.25. |
Graham 23-Jul-2010 [4650] | it was in an upgrade loop .. kept asking me to upgrade to .25 after I upped |
Anton 25-Jul-2010 [4651] | Search and extract AltME messages: http://anton.wildit.net.au/rebol/util/AltME/AltME-helper-funcs.r |
Carl 27-Jul-2010 [4652] | For anyone using Vista or Sys7, there is a new AltME to test that installs better: www.altme.com/download/altme26c.exe We want to release it in about 12 hours, so if you have any problems, please let me know. |
Sunanda 27-Jul-2010 [4653] | Just tried it on Vista: -- needed Admin level to install in current folder installation folder -- PCTool's Threatfire reported it as "high risk" -- because it was copying files to multiple locations -- did a resync, downloaded a lot of older messages, and turned many groups red....Not in itself a bad thing as that could properly sync some groups with missing messages; but a little surprising as most of the red groups had no new messages. |
BrianH 27-Jul-2010 [4654] | What was the current folder you were trying to install to? |
Sunanda 27-Jul-2010 [4655] | The current folder it is installed in: program files/altme |
BrianH 27-Jul-2010 [4656x3] | And did it pop up a UAC prompt? It it was installing to any of the program files directories, it should have asked for admin by a UAC prompt. |
And if it did, it should have put its data files somewhere under the user data directories, not in program files.
I'm not saying that is what it did for me, I'm saying that is what an app should do, especially on Vista/7/2008.
Sunanda 27-Jul-2010 [4659] | No, it popped up an AktME box saying iy could not install for one of two reasons: -- altme already running (it was not) -- needs admin-level permission I restarted it with admin-level permission It looks like the data files have been installed in a different location to where they were before. This may be a good thing in the longer-term. But a little confusing just now. Sorry -- got to go now.....Back in 12 hours. |
BrianH 27-Jul-2010 [4660x3] | AltME is a tiny program that doesn't handle any file extensions. It should be installing under C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local (for the Brian user, i.e.). You can get that value from the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" key, in the "Local AppData" value. |
That will work on any version of Windows starting with 2000, and possibly earlier.
Personally, I run AltME as a portable app, but if I ran it as a local app that is where I would put it. Chrome installs in the same location too.
Carl 27-Jul-2010 [4663x3] | To clarify: AltME attempts to install in %appdata% (which is the path indicated above by BrianH.) It then uses "local" not "roaming". |
However, for a "reinstall" vs a "fresh install" it will try to use your older installed location. That's why the above happened.
I suppose that this feature should be "removed" -- what do you think?
