Henrik, the latter is faster. It is most obvious with the draw command
and very rapid mouse movements.

[2453]
do you have fast or slow hardware?

Geomol, the Right click is most familiar! Cool.
1.8 Ghz 512MB and I haven't rebooted Xp in a while.

then the patch is mostly visible on fast machines...

Henrik, I've implementer your display-canvas, but with 50 FPS as
the original PAL Amiga.
New version uploaded.
Hmm no good is some cases. Drawing lines sometimes doesn't show the
end result. I think, some "show canvas" should be forced. I'll check...

Event filtering is difficult. Have you seen Gabriele and Romano's
work on that ? Look for eat.r and there is another one too..

New version uploaded with forced "show canvas" for all but "over"
functions. Testing needed!

you could probably force a show canvas every time you receive an
'up event

yup, and down and key-presses.
Anton, no, I'm not familiar with those.
Anton: but I think, I've got it "good enough" now.

I think the feel is pretty good now. It's not silky smooth, but it's
very responsive. It has a lot of potential.
bug: pressing + results in an error
seems only to happen while the mouse button is pressed

check! I'll look at it.
Fixed. It's very funny to draw and change brush-size at the same
time! :-)
New version uploaded.
Wow, you can do that with the original DPaint too (just tried). Didn't
know that!

I think you can do almost anything, even switch drawing tools while
the mouse is pressed in DPaint.
Anton

[2472]
Yes, but how to get good control over it ?
Henrik

[2473x2]
hmm.... I think there needs to be a limiter as well on keypresses.
try moving the mouse around while not drawing and press and hold
+. The movements are slow.
this could also be affected by how fast key-repeat is set in your
OS...

G, the Rt-mouse is now draw.

I can't skip "show canvas" on key-presses, because then you might
not see the change (e.g. the brush getting larger).
James, what? Try latest version.

is it possible to detect a key release? you could force a show there

Henrik, nope.
Only key presses in REBOL (so far).

someone I talked to, really wanted a Brilliance interface rather
than a DPaint one. With redefinable hotkeys and a separate interface
layer, this should be possible, shouldn't it?

Yes, when modules are implemented. (My little plan.) ;-)
New version with color pick tool (comma key) uploaded. It's also
possible to choose right-click color.

bug: draw and hold the mouse button down. now press E

hmm difficult one. In DPaint, you can change tool in the middle of
something (like you did). Does it makes sense? Maybe it shouldn't
be possible to change tool while drawing!?
Henrik
2-Sep-2005
[2489]
it probably doesn't really make sense unlike you like to paint in
realtime :-)

Problem in "Canvas" is, that I do lots of things depending on tool,
when the mouse is pressed. That now also has to be done, when a key
is being pressed. Not good. I'll make sure, you can't change tool
while drawing. Will solve problem.
Fixed. New version uploaded.

with the polygon tool, when using a large brush, the polygon is drawn
with sharp edges. is this correct behaviour?
Geomol

[2493]
If filled polygon (W), then yes. Not-filled polygon (w) has round
edges.
Henrik

ups, a bug. Yes, got it too in second go.
Fixed. New version uploaded.
It seems, the DRAW dialect "line-cap" doesn't have effect with "polygon",
so I changed it to use "line".
Henrik
2-Sep-2005
[2498]
ok, is it also intentional that the first line in a poly must be
drawn by dragging the line with the mouse button down while the rest
don't require this?
Geomol
2-Sep-2005
[2499]
Yes, that's the behaviour in DPaint. Think of it, as a line is fixed,
when you release the button. Then it is same behaviour with all points.
You can also drag the rest of the lines, as the first.
