you can get it 10-30 in Singapore dollars as well (US$1 = SGD$1.63;
approx)

I think the Tablet needs 95% graphics operated computing before it
becomes a market winner.

well, even arrows, delete, insert etc. makes it off-center ... but
- is that really so big problem? I never thought about it that way
... the only thing I need now is wireless keyboard to have it with
me on ma sofa :-)

by a normally use a $60.00 keyboard that has an ergonomic split and
is also wireless but the company , logitek has stopped making it
-- unfortunately
eFishAnt

[126]
some of the ergonomics have not yet been worked out by them either...;-)

Pekr, you can take a look at IBM Thinkpad's keyboard. They have manage
to make it balanced with the arrow keys and stuffs.

A lot of the other laptops manufacturers don't get it, even Apple.
(and I use Macs as well)
Carl

[128]
the reason it is a big problem is that when you're sitting in the
same place for ten or more hours in a little thing in every little
thing will eventually effect you
eFishAnt
22-Jan-2005
[129]
effect .... Speech? or are you typing?

Microsoft speech recognition really sucks all
Pekr
22-Jan-2005
[131]
yeksoon - but I hate it ... switching between 3 notebooks each of
different brands every of them has arrows, delete, insert etc. keys
at different positions ....
Carl

[132]
yes I am speaking

all all all Microsoft likes adding a lot of other words all all all
eFishAnt

[135]
affect is the right word
Carl

[136]
I have been using speech recognition off and on as a test case or
more than twenty years all
Pekr

Carl, maybe you can create custom speach dialect ... even MS words
let's you to write your own corrections ... so just link some your
speach habits and tell app what should it say instead :-)
MS Word
Carl

[139x2]
unfortunately all it is not a lot better today than all it was all
all all all twenty years ago
do you really think I'll use Microsoft word all all
eFishAnt

[141]
so can you speak a REBOL script into here? Oops forgot, not Messenger
where do [ view/new layout [ box ] ] can be done...
Pekr
22-Jan-2005
[142]
no, that was just example ... dunno if speach sw would allow anything
like that ... so you would teach it to some of your speach patterns
and tell it how to interpret it ....
Carl
22-Jan-2005
[143x2]
let me try all
first let me turn off this bill because it is messing up the speech
recognition I think that is where the word call is coming from all
all
yeksoon
22-Jan-2005
[145]
doesn't John Ousterhout, Tcl creator, use speech stuffs as well..
bcos of RSI problems

we are afraid Carl is imitating Max Headroom...;-)
Carl

[147]
OK but see if this is better -- I don't know what insane programmer
decided that you should ring the bell whenever a word is recognized
by the speech recognition software -- that is about as stupid as
it gets
Pekr
22-Jan-2005
[148]
then we will have to do it ourselves - speach recognition in REBOL
:-) But we would either need library, or fast VM/port for fast performance
... otoh it surely is not easy to do such kind of stuff ...

Pekr...keys in diferrent positions. I have that problem of swiching
machines too.

In the ideal world, I'd have one personal keyboard and use it on
any machine. Without having to do all the unplugging. driver upgrading,
and rebooting first....eFishAnt can you design the ultimate portable
keyboard for me!?
Carl

[150]
that is where that word all was coming from -- two bill gates a ding
sound has the same sound as the word all

[151]
wow...that sounds like a GREAT QUOTE for a WEB PAGE ... LOL
Carl
22-Jan-2005
[152]
if that is as good as speech recognition gets I think I could do
better in probably about a month of programming -- I have been thinking
about this problem for more than two decades -- while at apple computer
by a push to get speech recognition to be part of every Macintosh
-- but was unsuccessful
Pekr

Sunanda - there is already virtual keyboard available, but you need
clean desk for it ... dunno if it is usable at all, but fits nicely
PDAs etc. - it is projection technology ...
Carl
22-Jan-2005
[154]
I have seen that to -- an interesting way to input characters
Sunanda

Seen it too, thanks, Petr......So won't work easily on a train or
plane.

Designs coming and going .....That's why I'd like to keep the keyboard
that works for me........But only after I find it.

But then I still use a personal fountain pen rather than utility
biros. May be I'm old-fashioned.

I just noticed that we are in the web development room
what we probably need is a weekend chat room

for on topic, we started as keyboards hooked to the Internet / Web...

if they made this text recognition software in little better -- and
I think they do but it does not come from Microsoft -- it would be
a good way to communicate in All the old me hold me all the fault
may

I like Mozilla's Find-as-type facility ... you simply start writing
word and cursor moves around the screen - F3 - next occurance, enter
- choose, backspace - back to previous page etc

one marketing thing Microsoft used to dis OS2Warp's integration of
Speech is that in the office, talking is distractive to others, unless
all have private offices.

Speech recognition make best sense in car and at home.
Carl
22-Jan-2005
[168]
speech recognition is impossible to use in the car
yeksoon
22-Jan-2005
[169]
and rebol may make speech recognition programs confused.

eg. send [steve-:-efish] "lunch appt"
Carl

I have tried it

should it launch a program to send the email or should it write the
code?
