It should. But test show limited reliability.
LAST YEAR, SURFNET HAD RELAY THE STREAM, AND THIS YEAR ?

We need a Breeze implemented in REBOL

not too impressive, me thinks
except for sound and camera, this could be done easily in REBOL
Kaj

But that's the point, we need sound and camera, and better platform
integration
We have this great environment in which we can do anything, but trying
to go outside we run into walls

rebol Plugin could work for this but again there's the plaform issue,
i thing this filed its outside rebol capabilities interaction w/hardware
sounds a bit crazy in reb-world.
Breeze, to much noise to few nutts, again the tool looks graphicaly
impressive, how much is this customisable and the costs of the service
leave out too many cuestions to me. im thinkig macromedia products
are not what they where a couple of years ago, now its more like
a bloat.

I know there are problems with the plugin regarding multiple instances
or refreshes... but Breeze didn't load on my unaltered installation
of Firefox either. Also, being a hockey fan I check www.nhl.com
fairly regularly, but must switch to IE cause the menu system doesn't
work outside of IE. Is this the web-developers fault or just the
web in general? Too fragmanted with too many people with their own
agendas!
I like the Webservices smart client world best and if Rebol can make
a multiple platform impact here, we have our killer application/framework.

a reminder for those flying over for DevCon.

Please do not tell the immigration officer or customs officer that
you are here
- for 'rebel' conference
- to change the world
- for 'X' Internet
- and other terms that even geeks may have problems understanding

Brock, as a company that is working very hard to make everything
compatible between all the browser I can tell you that what it comes
down to is that there are rules, but each browser company (or group)
interprets the rules slightly differently.

The simplest example of goes wrong the most are the "assumptions."
EI for example will except <center> to mean center the page, and
center pretty much everything until you turn </center> off.

But Firefox follows the letter of the rules, and expects each object,
like a table, to have its own <center> tags.

This is a simple visual example, it gets worse when JavaScript enters
the picture. Safari for example DEMANDS everything ending in a ";"
or it simply ignores stuff.

They are almost always easy fixes, but time consuming.

Maarten, shame that Breeze will not work. I looked at Breeze and
voted not to use it to do a Rebol lesson. Looked great on their
page, but I read a lot of similar comments elsewhere on the web that
it simply failed for too many people. I was hoping that someone
smart in this group would know what we could use both to solve our
DevCon needs and the Rebol Newbie Lesson needs.

We need a way to broad cast at least one video signal, and allow
moderated chat in the same environment for people all over the world.
This should be easier. I have an Idea that might work, but will
require some research. I might just do this in Qtask. Then anyone
can log in from anywhere, talk in a group, have sub topics. All
we have to add is video streaming (which is actually pretty easy
for us). The trick is setup up the incoming real time stream, which
I was not planning to do for a while.

Reichart: I was testing to see if this could work; I am sad that
it doesn't work for many people. The conecpt and interface design
is good though, and it would have been a great way to make a subset
of the conference virtually accessible for the rest.
What we really want is a cross-over between Skype (with vskype) and
AltMe

Does anyone know, what resolution will be used on the projector at
DevCon?

Important note: be aware of pickpocketers. They seem to like tourists
a lot! Keep your things safe. :)
Kaj

OK, how do we not look like tourists in Italy? :-)
Brock

Reichart: Yes, I am aware of the company specific differences in
interpretting or implementing the rules. Thus my point. If you
can create a stand-alone application that is cross-platform and uses
the internet for content and application updates in a transparent
fashion, you have removed the middle-man and can eliminate the problems
of the browser from the equation.
Use the internet purely to allow people to find your app, and once
found, they should in theory never have to go back to the site.

Kaj, I think you just move your arms all about when you are talking,
and wear a pin stripe suit.

It's a pity that you won't be there to see it
Tomorrow I'm going to see if my pin stripe suit is back from the
cleaner

more ideas, a pinky ring, fancy cigarettes, a silk hankerchief in
your breast pocket, and scowl a lot. (if you don't look Italian,
at least you might scare them off.)

Maybe I should take an ex. She had Sicilian blood
She claimed she was descended from the one who set the prisoners
free on Sicily, indirectly creating the mafia

If you do get pickpocketed, then you can call her in for reinforcements.

Projector: Mario told me he used it at 1024x768, so that works, but
he's not sure if it works at 1280x1024 too.

usually it does work up to 1600x1200 or so ... the problem lays otherwise
- the picture is shrinked (if that is the correct term). It is like
with LCD - only one resolution is native ...
Gabriele
27-Sep-2005
[1127]
yes, the issue is the sampling frequency on the signal (dunno if
it is digital, i guess not)

8.5 hours before the pizza party .. good job I'm on a low carb diet
!
Pekr

will pizza party have live stream too? I would order my own pizza
from local pizzeria, plus some beer and I would be "there" with folks
:-)
Graham

Well, I would hazard a guess and suggest that it will not be at the
conference room!

I can see Anton posting link for live stream - so quicktime plus
website is preffered way? Or will there be VLC rtsp version? Or?

He didn't say.
Perhaps he wants to leave it to the last moment to avoid people spitting
on him??
