[DevCon2005] DevCon 2005

Gabriele

so, ok, let's write a little script.
Graham

I suspect that the number of people who would be interested in going,
and don't have rebol installed, are far outweighed by those that
do, and don't read english.
You don't need cgi either, you can use

set-net [ "form" 216.40.214.39 ]

in your script, and then 'send the results to you.
Gabriele

graham: i agree, but if you don't read english, how are you supposed
to attend the conference or speak with each other there?
of course i will just use send in the script.
Graham

[124]
I guess it should be

set-net [ "form" "motoko.rebol.it" ]

can't we just keep the users's config? that won't work if you're
behind proxies or something like that.

Graham: so you want to keep Mac users away from the Devcon do you?
Graham

[127x2]
I expect the Mac port to be completed soon enough now that 1.3 is
out :)
From those who attended the last one, is two days sufficient, too
much, or not enough time?
Gabriele

[129]
graham: depends on number of speakers. we had to rush a lot at last
one (my speech was reduced from 45 mins to about 10 mins)
Pekr

[130]
have you talked to Carl, if he would come to Italy?
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[131]
he will.
Graham

[132]
I think if you're going to pay 1000s of $ to travel so far, then
that is a real shame to cut short the speakers.
Gabriele

[133]
i'd say, No Carl No Party. :)
Graham

Cindy has already stated that she has blocked off carl's calendar
for end of Sept.

ok, you wanted it, so don't blame me. http://www.colellachiara.com/devcon05/survey.r

Pekr

[137]
Where are you going? You just said that lunch is gonna happen later,
no? :-)

Find me a language that make it shorter ! (except a phone call, that's
just 12 number ;-)
Gabriele

[139]
does that script seem ok to you?

How about "Lake Como"? Only 30 min outside of Milan, and quite a
sight from what I have heard.
Pekr
16-Jun-2005
[141]
well, it will depend how expensive is such hotel :-)
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[142]
if there's time, we could do a trip there. but... not sure about
the time part :)
Pekr
16-Jun-2005

Gabriele - do you have beer in Italy? :-)
If so, I don't need to trvell much :-)
travel

I was thinking about organizing the conference in Lake Como, if possible;
Nice surroundings.
May I ask why Milan?
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[148]
a reboler that works in a school near milan offered to host the conference.
JaimeVargas
16-Jun-2005
[149x2]
Ok. Then thats a good reason.
Is the location for the conference a school?
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[151]
yes. a high school.
Pekr
17-Jun-2005
[152]
I have thought it will be big show. Some small hotel or so :-) But
that would be surely more expensive ...

If you are searching for hotels, try: www.hrs.de It's on of the best
hotel reservation systems I know about.
IIRC they have an english interface as well.
I'm still thinking if I go by plane or by car. As I live in the south-west
of Germany, I could pick-up some people.
Gabriele
17-Jun-2005
[156]
petr: i think the school has big rooms.
Pekr
17-Jun-2005
[157x2]
but I need a restaurant too :-) Hope there will be some after-party
in the evening? :-)
I would welcome if interim releases would be commented in the same
way, as Carl did with View 1.3 Build Change Log. It keeps ppl informed
....
Gabriele
17-Jun-2005
[159]
petr: oh sure there will be restaurants in the area. and we'll be
sure to pick the best ones. food is very good in italy :-)
Robert
17-Jun-2005
[160]
That's true... and red-wine. And the girls in Milan too :-))

Wackos.... (I can't go lol)

very exciting. seems an excellent idea to use the school, better
facilities than a hotel, and likely all the equipment for classes
(projectors, screens, even overheads maybe?)
DideC

[163]
And if it's cheaper, may be more people can come.
Maxim

now the dates. If anyone of us is about to go there and reserve
flights and hotels... the sooner the date is known, the sooner its
possible to try and make it.
someone has to take charge and decide and become the focal point
of the organisation, otherwise its going to become hard to get there....
airfares cost more as deadlines are closer...
Graham
19-Jun-2005
[166]
But often hotels become cheaper the closer to the deadline.
Gabriele

so far 8 people sent in the survey email. we need a bit more to decide
for dates and so on.
