Update on the Dev Con.

Sadly, while we have wireless, and access to the Web, not to AltME! 
 Shame.

Also; Although it is being taped correctly, we can't get it on the 
web.


Apparently there are a lot of problems with Firewalls here, at different 
levels, as in, we are in a school, but in a addition, the Italian 
gov might be blocking some stuff.  We are not sure.

Oh well, I guess we come back in a few weeks to see the videos.

hopefully the presentation material will be up much sooner than that 
like last year

I'm on the Mac right now, so no AltME unfortunately... I'll try to 
get my

laptop on too and try to figure out how to bypass the firewall so 
I can
get on AltME too.

In the meantime, I have skype running here... just search for
gabriele_santilli and specify who you are so i can authorize you.

Anybody knows how to tune the DevCon broadcast ? I think it's starting

at work now ... so - we even did not get anyone sending plain old 
email to anyone of us, so short excerption of Carl's presentation 
could be posted here? If AltME or stream does not work, so what? 
Email or web still works, no? ;-)

well, he should let negative aspects to me, I am expert on that - 
what about anything positive, e.g. some small notes from Carl's presentation?

looking at Conference 2004 website on rebol.net, it is redone in 
make-doc imo, so dunno what was original presentation made in ....

he used show2.r last year, Pekr.

Looks like each conference is going to bring it's own learning points

Carl used show2.r while the 'rest' use 'show.r'...I think.

I believe, Robert was the only one on powerpoint

Next year I suggest everyone prerecord their sessions as divx and 
bring them with them :)

heh, great - why not to have virtual rebol conference then? Everybody 
will buy their drink, install webcam in their room, we can code some 
nice View app for that :-)

nope, behind firewall right now, here on AltME only via slow GPRS 
connection - not sufficient for Skype ...

but I wonder if anyone could talk to Gabriele and ask him about what 
Carl announced - even few transcribed sentences posted here would 
help :-)

skype has chat inbuild too, that works.

Petr .... webcam in Rebol may be a bit ambitious .... we cant even 
get access to real time sound. !

well...just hope everyone understand that there are no full time 
event organiser that helps see to the infrastructure needs of broadcasting 
etc.


so far, all the Rebol events are initiaited and organised by volunteers 
from the community. Given limited time and resources, the chances 
of them facing problems with broadcast is very high.


I guess the issue here is more of 'expectation' management  more 
than anything. Give them some breathing space... they are trying 
their best with the little time they have to get the broadcast issues 
sorted out.


Just keep your fingers crossed...and wait for them to upload the 
various speeches to the server over the next few days

..if they could not solve the broadcast issue

yes, that is true ... but someone here was working on fmod ... and 
Carl told me that if fmod goods as good as AGG is for graphics, he 
may consider it .....

we don't want to scare next year's organiser off :)

broadcast was set-up really fast we expected it will be at least 
the same this time ...

a little bit more - maybe Carl has some thoughts in that regard and 
maybe you can help Carl to investigate some possible solutions, dunno

in a way, AltMe users...are spoilt to real-time access to info.

.... yes, sometimes we take things for granted .... not letting ourselves 
to think more deeply - in fact - it is fantastic, that ppl from various 
place on Earth can talk one to each other in real-time (although 
in text form here) - 10 years back it was hardly possible, and I 
remember buying one product from Zachary, US, sending them my order 
via Fax, they sent me diskette by post, it came broken, so new fax, 
and I got new diskette with my DOS app I ordered in two months ... 
and I was happy :-)

I have requested he add me tohis skype contacts ... but I guess he 
is busy at the moment.
