IMO it's a very nice time to go to Italy. And Milano is a very nice
city.

It can get chilly if the wind is from the North. But probably still
sunny at the same time.

Yes, very nice city.

Hum I have one little sugestion for DevCON2005 live streaming. Is
to use NullSoft shout cast wich in my opinion is mutch easier to
use and mutch performant than Quicktime...
to share audio and video we need 3 things 1) the shoutcast server
(configured properly but this not the most enoyant part) www.shoutcast.com/
 2) the NSV Tools that is used to share video stream from the webcam
(use the VP3 encoder for video) and from the microphone (MP3 Lame
encoder) 3) client use winamp software to see and listen the intervention
in the conference ;)
normally this shoutcast solution is supported by all OS and computers...
but it could be very cool to prepare the relay month befor the devcon
in order to get it the more more workable as possible

Gabriele - where in Italy would it take place? The thing is - should
we travel by car across the Europe, or will it be possible to to
taky a flight? Will it be near enough of any airport?
ah, should read the content first. I need to talk to Czech guys,
where it is more common flights from CZ arrive to ... Rome or Milano
...

i think you should find flights for both. they are the biggest airports
in italy. so the decision about landing to rome is mainly if you
wish to visit the city and then go to milan (i.e. by train, so you
have the chance to see almost all italy)
if there are enough people interested in visiting rome, we could
organize and all stay in the same hotel, then take the same train
to milan. i'd be with you and we could get tickets etc. in advance.
just an idea...

How does the sending of the DevCon form work. There's written it
will be send via e-mail. When I use Opera (my mailer) it just opens
the empty mailer and the IE wants to use Outlook what's not configured.
Is there another way to send the Survey without making it too hard
for you Gabriele ? (copy the information in the mail ....)

Ammon, I seriously doubt I have the money to pay for a trip to Italy.
its a trip worth a few thousand dollars.
doh, pressed wrong Ctrl key !!! was not meant to be sent here...
but the damage is done... :-)

Hello all,

Michael: form result should go to email automatically. you can send
me a mail manually if you want. if there's a problem for enough people
with the email form, i'll look into setting up a cgi.

Should use the plugin!

btw - what is your suggestion? Rome or Milano? I was not in either
...
Gabriele

Graham: i've been thinking a lot about how to make it so that 1)
it could be done in a couple mins 2) could be accessed by anyone,
even without rebol or plugin. this seemed like the simplest and most
accessible way. which shows that the web is too complicated.
petr: Milano is closer to the place where the devcon is. from Roma
you have to travel across half Italy. so, if you have a limited time,
Milano is best. while if you have enough time and want to take the
chance to visit italy, you may prefer Roma.
Milano is more a "business" kind of city. Roma is probably more interesting
from a tourist point of view. but it really depends. Milano can be
very interesting too.
i think we should consider Roma only if we manage to get an arganized
group there. that would mean a lot of fun.
*organized
btw, everyone feel free to submit the form even if you are not sure
about your answers. it's just getting a mail to me so if you change
idea you can just send me another one or send me a note manually.

Accessed without Rebol ? I wonder if you *really* believe someone
who does not have rebol installed would be coming to a devcon!
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[118x2]
you may be on a pc without rebol. but - why not? ;)
so, ok, let's write a little script.
Graham

[120x2]
I suspect that the number of people who would be interested in going,
and don't have rebol installed, are far outweighed by those that
do, and don't read english.
You don't need cgi either, you can use

set-net [ "form" 216.40.214.39 ]

in your script, and then 'send the results to you.
Gabriele

graham: i agree, but if you don't read english, how are you supposed
to attend the conference or speak with each other there?
of course i will just use send in the script.
Graham
16-Jun-2005
[124]
I guess it should be

set-net [ "form" "motoko.rebol.it" ]

can't we just keep the users's config? that won't work if you're
behind proxies or something like that.

Graham: so you want to keep Mac users away from the Devcon do you?
Graham
16-Jun-2005
[127x2]
I expect the Mac port to be completed soon enough now that 1.3 is
out :)
From those who attended the last one, is two days sufficient, too
much, or not enough time?
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[129]
graham: depends on number of speakers. we had to rush a lot at last
one (my speech was reduced from 45 mins to about 10 mins)
Pekr

[130]
have you talked to Carl, if he would come to Italy?
Gabriele
16-Jun-2005
[131]
he will.
Graham
16-Jun-2005
[132]
I think if you're going to pay 1000s of $ to travel so far, then
that is a real shame to cut short the speakers.
Gabriele

[133]
i'd say, No Carl No Party. :)

Cindy has already stated that she has blocked off carl's calendar
for end of Sept.
