helloo :-) *waves back*
a few motion artifacts but very good
ok, now it stopped
gabriele, by the way, was the clock timer usable?
Gabriele

a bit big for my purpose maybe. i'll try it out anyway. i want to
have a special version of show.r with a timer built-in. the idea
is that if the speaker is getting late the timer starts to complain
;)
i wonder why the stream stopped for you...
i really think rtsp is very unreliable.
btw, you using QT or VLC?
Henrik

vlc
restarted it and now it works again

i guess it stops if it misses too many packets.
do you think it is reliable enough to follow a speech?
Henrik

[1004x5]
audio drops out once in a while
for about 1/4 second
every 2-5 seconds
video would be reliable enough for a speech, yes
I'll try QT, hang on...

ok
Henrik

[1010x2]
QT gave me 1/2 second of sound and a couple of frames of video
VLC is much more stable

i still wonder if there is any way to force DSS to use TCP

funny delay in the videostream on your monitor :-)

:-)
DSS does a lot of buffering, 2 or 3 secs or so.

Where do I grab the DevCon2005 branded version of show.r?
Gabriele

not available yet - will be very soon.

gabriele, do you want me to create a scaled down version of the clock?
shouldn't be too hard...

My plane leaves in 36 hours. ;)

can you think of an effect to make it draw attention when time is
less than 5 minutes?
Henrik
24-Sep-2005
[1021]
it would be easy to make it flash in annoying colors

Blur?

ok... if you want to play with it... i'd be very happy :) let me
start working on show.r in the meantime.
(so maybe you can work directly on show.r)

ashley: http://hmkdesign.dk/rebol/clock.zipin case you missed it
(it's a pretty good demo of basic skinning of REBOL GUIs I think)

Cute, I like it. ;)

Totem, the standard player in Gnome, says it has no codec for the
stream
Gabriele

do you have mplayer too?
mplayer is likely to work, though not all versions support rtsp.
VLC is your best choice.

kaj: are you using totem for gstreamer or totem-xine?
in my experience gstreamer hardly ever works
gabriele, updated it now. a test timer starting at 0:05:03 starts
doing something interesting at 0:04:59 :-)
(and it cost 6 lines of code...)

Yeah, I found out last week. I'm using totem-xine now
VLC 0.8.1 on Ubuntu fails silently
Gabriele

[1037x2]
strange, i have 0.8.2 (downloaded to see if it supported h264) but
i don't think there's much difference with 0.8.1
worst case, most people will have to see the recordings after the
devcon, instead of the live stream.

MPlayer 1.0-pre6 on Ubuntu fails silently as well; hangs itself,
even
Sigh. Linux is still the same after all these years. VERY easy to
install software - so now I have nine media players that all don't
work

it is possible, that you can't receive UDP packets. it's hard to
make rtsp work without UDP. in theory... transport should be negotiated...
but it seems to me that players don't do a good job at it, and DSS
doesn't seem to be smart in this case either.
