Maxim 19-Dec-2006 [1472x2] | It seems like there is sooooooo much code for so little result. |
IMHO | |
Pekr 20-Dec-2006 [1474x4] | Google axes search API - http://www.osnews.com/story.php/16769/Google-Axes-Search-API |
some ppl speculate it is because they had no income from it. It is going to be replaced with AJAX. Maybe they want to force ppl to "display" the result somehow, just to see advertisements? If so, it is stupid. I would better pay for such service with API, then was being forced to use some obscure aproach ....
1.3 Appropriate Conduct and Prohibited Uses. ... You agree that you will not, and you will not permit your users or other third parties to: (a) modify or replace the text, images, or other content of the Google Search Results, including by (i) changing the order in which the Google Search Results appear, (ii) intermixing Search Results from sources other than Google, or (iii) intermixing other content such that it appears to be part of the Google Search Results; ... Amen - so much for a company, which seemed to become new Internet "platform" leader .... they seem to be money oriented - that decision simply sucks ....
Interesting and balanced opinions (SOAP complexity) - http://www.regdeveloper.co.uk/2006/04/29/oreilly_amazon/
Maxim 20-Dec-2006 [1478x2] | it also makes the use of their search really nil. |
rather just use an http post and extract the results.
Jean-François 20-Dec-2006 [1480] | I have been hopping for multi keyboard, mutli-mic input on one screen for long time.. I wonder why it took so long for someone to do this. Isn't it obvious that multiple mice would be usefull in many cases. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2006/dec06/12-14MultiPoint.mspx |
Pekr 22-Dec-2006 [1481] | Nicely specced UMPC for Rebol :-) http://mobile-review.com/pda/articles/htc-athena.shtml ... surely it will also be nicely priced :-) |
Graham 22-Dec-2006 [1482x4] | want a linux based UMPC |
in English too! | |
I had a working Rebol SOAP google interface too!
Not that I ever used it ...
Pekr 22-Dec-2006 [1486] | http://www.oqo.com, maybe you can uninstall Windows and install Linux? Who knows ... |
Graham 22-Dec-2006 [1487] | 800x480 .. have to wait till they get better resolution! |
sqlab 22-Dec-2006 [1488] | Sony UX90S UMPC- 1024 x 600 |
Henrik 22-Dec-2006 [1489] | wouldn't rebol run on soekris hardware? that's a powerful little machine. |
Maxim 22-Dec-2006 [1490] | it would be swell if it ran on the EFIKA boards. I wonder if we can purchase them in canada... |
Pekr 30-Dec-2006 [1491] | A peek at faster Power6, Cell chips - http://news.com.com/A+peek+at+faster+Power6%2C+Cell+chips/2100-1006_3-6146309.html?tag=nefd.lede |

Graham 30-Dec-2006 [1493x2] | it says they were discussing mathematical modelling of the chaotic traffic while crossing the road .. and he was then struck by a motorbike. Sounds like a super super geek! |
Either he was distracted, or his model was wrong.
[unknown: 9] 30-Dec-2006 [1495] | I watched a program recently about crossing the street there. The trick being to begin to cross, and keep your speed exactly the same at all times. Which they demonstrated. Two women holding hands (one was a westerner) cross the very wide street with motorcycles and mopeds and tiny cars whizzing by. Scared me to simply watch it. I suspect he paused, which would be something most of us that are not used to that might do. It is a deep shame, as an absent minded professor, one of my big fears is being hit by a car. I used to walk home at about 3:00 a.m almost every night. My office and home were 3k apart. The streets were completely empty, and so I felt somewhat safe from cars. One night in deep thought I crossed the street (totally ignoring the state of the light) and was almost hit by a racing car. Often, when I would arrive at home I simply could not remember walking at all, I was so deep in thought. |
Graham 30-Dec-2006 [1496x2] | Perhaps you need a personal radar/motion detector? |
And of course, this is a worry with electric gas hybrid cars .. they make so little noise.
Robert 1-Jan-2007 [1498x2] | reliable point-2-point via UDP: http://www.ecip.com/ Can something like this be done in Rebol? |

Graham 3-Jan-2007 [1501] | Should use Rebol for the web proxy. |
PeterWood 3-Jan-2007 [1502] | Yes they should but they probably won't :-( |

Maxim 3-Jan-2007 [1504] | why do the term semantic and markup used in the same sentence seem like an oxymoron to me? |
Oldes 3-Jan-2007 [1505x2] | You mean the sentence: "adding semantics to markup to take it from being machine readable to being machine understandable." ? To me all markup languages are machine redable, at least when I use Rebol:-) |
and understandable because of Rebol of course
Ingo 4-Jan-2007 [1507] | I've had a "croosing the street" experience once, too. I was in Paris and wanted to visit the Arc de Triomphe, all I could see was an 8 lane circular traffic around it, with no traffic lights whatsoever, and lots of cars speeding by, not paying attention to any of the markings on the street .... On the other hand, I could see some people over there, where I wnated to be. So after some cnotemplation, I decided, "Oh, well, this is France". And I started started walking, and kept going, with all the cars beautifully flowing around me, just like magic. It was a scary experience, and I wouldn't dare do this in Germany ;-) |
Maxim 4-Jan-2007 [1508] | in Germany, people woundn't be ignoring the markings on the street ;-) |
[unknown: 9] 4-Jan-2007 [1509] | Max.............true! |
sqlab 4-Jan-2007 [1510] | wrong! It depends on the circumstances, what kind of vehicle is used or not used and where is it. At least I can use a crosswalk without some fear. |
Henrik 5-Jan-2007 [1511] | http://www.science.edu/TechoftheYear/TechoftheYear.htm<-- Radiation free fusion within a small reactor seems to be working. |
Maxim 5-Jan-2007 [1512x2] | wow! |
commercial viability within 6-10 years!
Henrik 5-Jan-2007 [1514x2] | it looked hokey at first, I thought, but Dr. Bussard has been giving lectures on how the technology works on Google campus. |
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1996321846673788606<-- a video of Dr. Bussard at google campus.
Robert 5-Jan-2007 [1516] | After 7 year, Walter Bright (who did the Zork & Symantec C++ compilers) has release V1.0 of D. http://www.digitalmars.com/d/index.htmlVery cool system, and much more handy than C/C++ compiler. There is a GCD version as well. |
Maxim 5-Jan-2007 [1517] | well, I'm looking at the source... and well ... the syntax seems like yet another C clone... :-( no? |
Robert 5-Jan-2007 [1518] | The syntax is very similiar (this makes learning very easy) but the concepts and the cleaness of the implementation is far from the C level stuff. It's really good. You have things like FOREACH... somehow I have a deja Vu, associative arrays etc. |
Graham 5-Jan-2007 [1519x2] | http://www.oreillynet.com/onlamp/blog/2007/01/adobe_acrobat_javascript_execu.html huge security risk if you site hosts pdf files |
huge security risk if your site hosts pdf files apparently.
[unknown: 9] 5-Jan-2007 [1521] | G: thanks for the post. |
