Mine has. back, forward, bookmarks
pasting an url. navigation and open things. thats desktop
You need that to deal with multiple "installations"/vendors of a
webpage/script

no, a desktop is a virtualisation of a desk litterally. there are
html desktops too ("EYE OS")

rebol supplies its own DOM (view)
view even has its own desktop, just like ios...

something to find files and programms, which lookes the same for
everyone.

ios actually provides something web browsers don't have by default.

view has read-thru, thats the more important part.
yes, they dont. but they want to get it.

well, I am thinking about it and even rebol/view has the offline
capabilities which browser apps don't really have yet.

It adds just enough to AJAX to make current web applications work
offline.
 thats what Sunanda startet with.

yes everyone is trying to get to it.
strange that we have been doing it for 5-6 years now.

Evrything with "online desktop" (to me focus on collaboration) is
so outdated now.. ;)
So when someone suggests a better solution than incremental browser-improvements,
i know one. I know both. The best incremental stuff, which gets attention,
and the way it should work. Links to "rebuilds it radically better"
are usually nothing new.
Except of shared editors like writely. But ios would do that now.

except IOS has bismal applications... sorry to say it so bluntly
and it being not free, it never got the spin it would have had otherwise.

my thoughts also, Rebol has been doing it for 5 or 6 years already,
and IOS is an example of how it might have been but didn't go far
enough.
Now the market is catching up, so the advocacy issue has become harder
the 3000 lb gorilla has entered the room.

I have played with a few ASUS computers, they feel like toys. Know
anyone that has a good one?

800x600, sorry, NO!

All I want is my current computer, but with LESS stuff:

Fujitsu P7020

24 cm wide
1280x768
1.2 G

It kicks ass, ven gets about 8 hours batt from the two bays.
very small.

What I want is this same computer but even thinner, and with no harddrive
(just 40Gigs of SD cards).

Other than a few extra buttons I would like to add (like physical
volume control, and dedicated page buttons) I'm really happy with
this computer. It travels around the world with me.

ah, but 1500 USD ....
simply put - if we want our apps on cell phones, or PDAs, how 800x600
can't be sufficient enough? I would like to see device slightly larger
than PDA, with keyboard, touchscreen, with full OS, not reduced one
...

Opera Mini 4.0-beta was released today and this seems to be one of
the best surprises of the year. It has Javascript, CSS support and
zoom-in support similar to the iPhone's, but with all the processing
happening to another server instead of your cellphone. Read more
for screenshots and info! - http://www.osnews.com/story.php/18106/All-Hail-Mobile-Browsing-Opera-Mini-4.0-beta-Released/

ah, I expected really something special, as some cool js libraries
links were posted already here.
may I ask what in particular is "pretty cool" there? Half of the
demo is about a grid. Yes, in terms of html (but this is not html,
this is simply js) it is probably good one, but Henrik's grid already
has many more features (yet some lacking)
other than that, it shows nearly nothing special? We should not allow
such stuff to impress us, just because, wow, this is possible in
browsers? We should think - why do browsers suck bad way, that it
takes 10 years to get such a features?

umm.. how old is Rebol ?
Pekr

[2469x5]
I expected exactly that question.
they might pretty much be lucky, that JS got under standards, because
back in NS 4.9 days it was a mess ...
my point was, that we admire things, just because those are finally
becoming being possible in browser world, whereas in normal rich-app
world, that demo shows only subordinate functionality ...
nevertheless - last 2 years are good sign for those, who would like
to have webserver plus browser kind of apps. So those ppl can concentrate
upon Cheyenne plus rebol back end for eg., and front-end being based
upon browser plus JS = you can find that client everywhere
but then you might miss things like rebservices in the future. hmm,
maybe we can link rebol.dll library to jscript as sublibrary, so
that we could use it? :-)
