Pekr 19-Jun-2007 [2460] | Opera Mini 4.0-beta was released today and this seems to be one of the best surprises of the year. It has Javascript, CSS support and zoom-in support similar to the iPhone's, but with all the processing happening to another server instead of your cellphone. Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2463x2] | yes, pretty cool |
Hope VID+ is going to be as complete as this ...
Pekr 21-Jun-2007 [2465x3] | ah, I expected really something special, as some cool js libraries links were posted already here. |
may I ask what in particular is "pretty cool" there? Half of the demo is about a grid. Yes, in terms of html (but this is not html, this is simply js) it is probably good one, but Henrik's grid already has many more features (yet some lacking)
other than that, it shows nearly nothing special? We should not allow such stuff to impress us, just because, wow, this is possible in browsers? We should think - why do browsers suck bad way, that it takes 10 years to get such a features?
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2468] | umm.. how old is Rebol ? |
Pekr 21-Jun-2007 [2469x5] | I expected exactly that question. |
they might pretty much be lucky, that JS got under standards, because back in NS 4.9 days it was a mess ...
my point was, that we admire things, just because those are finally becoming being possible in browser world, whereas in normal rich-app world, that demo shows only subordinate functionality ...
nevertheless - last 2 years are good sign for those, who would like to have webserver plus browser kind of apps. So those ppl can concentrate upon Cheyenne plus rebol back end for eg., and front-end being based upon browser plus JS = you can find that client everywhere
but then you might miss things like rebservices in the future. hmm, maybe we can link rebol.dll library to jscript as sublibrary, so that we could use it? :-)

Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2475] | I need some good table handling in javascript ... so this is quite good for me. |

or just google "javascript grid"
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2478x2] | Seems very painful to setup a js grid |
the rebol plugin would be much simpler!
Geomol 21-Jun-2007 [2480] | If the REBOL plugin is used to show the REBOL desktop, and I start a REBOL script there (one of the demos for example). Will the script be kept inside the browser, or will it be like if I started the script from REBOL in a normal way? |
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2481x2] | the rebol desktop is a bug ... |
I'll check the next time I see it!
Henrik 21-Jun-2007 [2483] | anyone seen Blazing Saddles? "The REBOL desktop is a DONNNGGGG!" :-) Kinda gives the same reaction, I think. |
Geomol 21-Jun-2007 [2484] | That Mel Brooks film, sure! :-) Now you make me think of the song "Blazing Saddles" by the Yello duo. |

Henrik 22-Jun-2007 [2487] | it's probably close to one of the most beautiful UIs I've ever seen. |
ICarii 22-Jun-2007 [2488x2] | pity you cant develop non-web apps for it - native apps would be impressive |
wow!. just saw the merge calls bit - extremely sexy

Robert 23-Jun-2007 [2494] | It really looks nice but I don't get it why the add sutff like YouTube? That's really of no value... I want a smartphone helping me to organiza myself better, to collaborte etc. I don't need a "how-to-waste-your-time" gadget. |
Geomol 23-Jun-2007 [2495] | My guess is, they add the popular stuff to secure sales first. Later you may get more of the useful stuff. |
Henrik 23-Jun-2007 [2496] | Apple -> Google -> Youtube. It seems to me that Apple want to access these services, because it's Google. They'll perhaps even let the phone record movies and upload them directly to youtube. |
