Pekr 21-Jun-2007 [2472x2] | nevertheless - last 2 years are good sign for those, who would like to have webserver plus browser kind of apps. So those ppl can concentrate upon Cheyenne plus rebol back end for eg., and front-end being based upon browser plus JS = you can find that client everywhere |
but then you might miss things like rebservices in the future. hmm, maybe we can link rebol.dll library to jscript as sublibrary, so that we could use it? :-)
Terry 21-Jun-2007 [2474] | Death of Microsoft? Not when they have stuff like.. http://labs.live.com/photosynth/ |
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2475] | I need some good table handling in javascript ... so this is quite good for me. |
Pekr 21-Jun-2007 [2476x2] | http://www.nitobi.com/products/grid/?gclid=CI3svNLp7IwCFSLeZgodc0kZnQ |
or just google "javascript grid"
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2478x2] | Seems very painful to setup a js grid |
the rebol plugin would be much simpler!
Geomol 21-Jun-2007 [2480] | If the REBOL plugin is used to show the REBOL desktop, and I start a REBOL script there (one of the demos for example). Will the script be kept inside the browser, or will it be like if I started the script from REBOL in a normal way? |
Graham 21-Jun-2007 [2481x2] | the rebol desktop is a bug ... |
I'll check the next time I see it!
Henrik 21-Jun-2007 [2483] | anyone seen Blazing Saddles? "The REBOL desktop is a DONNNGGGG!" :-) Kinda gives the same reaction, I think. |
Geomol 21-Jun-2007 [2484] | That Mel Brooks film, sure! :-) Now you make me think of the song "Blazing Saddles" by the Yello duo. |

ICarii 22-Jun-2007 [2486] | bah now i want one.. i should have never watched it :( |
Henrik 22-Jun-2007 [2487] | it's probably close to one of the most beautiful UIs I've ever seen. |
ICarii 22-Jun-2007 [2488x2] | pity you cant develop non-web apps for it - native apps would be impressive |
wow!. just saw the merge calls bit - extremely sexy
[unknown: 9] 23-Jun-2007 [2490] | What type of dolt would build a 100% web application?!? |
Graham 23-Jun-2007 [2491] | huh? |

Robert 23-Jun-2007 [2494] | It really looks nice but I don't get it why the add sutff like YouTube? That's really of no value... I want a smartphone helping me to organiza myself better, to collaborte etc. I don't need a "how-to-waste-your-time" gadget. |
Geomol 23-Jun-2007 [2495] | My guess is, they add the popular stuff to secure sales first. Later you may get more of the useful stuff. |
Henrik 23-Jun-2007 [2496] | Apple -> Google -> Youtube. It seems to me that Apple want to access these services, because it's Google. They'll perhaps even let the phone record movies and upload them directly to youtube. |

Maybe some devs from here could look how P3 plans to support "Unicode, Codecs and I/O", and compare it with what is planned for R3.

Jerry 12-Jul-2007 [2508] | The Curl Programming Language is FUN. http://www.curl.com/ |
Pekr 12-Jul-2007 [2509] | Slow, ask Robert .... |
Jerry 12-Jul-2007 [2510] | Slowness is not the biggest problem of Curl, but pricing is. Pricing for commercial deployments starts at $12,000. |
Henrik 12-Jul-2007 [2511] | useful for governments then. they have that kind of money. |
[unknown: 9] 12-Jul-2007 [2512] | Anytnig make Curl "Great?" |
Jerry 12-Jul-2007 [2513] | For writing a RIA research article, I've spent 10 hours studing Curl, that didn't make me an expert, but so far: 1. I like the content-centric programming, it's kind of like MakeDoc + RSP + RTF. 2. The macro facility seems powerful, which makes homemade DSL possible, I guess. 3. APIs seem complete. 4. The 2D and 3D rendering engine uses hardware-acceleration. 5. It's a Functional Language. 6. Unicode, Yes, even Curl supports Unicode. Like I said, I am not an expert, so any of the items listed above could be wrong. Here is a DDJ article http://www.ddj.com/dept/architect/184413224 |
Allen 12-Jul-2007 [2514x2] | It is a longtime since I tried it.. But I recall it had fantastic support for units (weights, measures, distance) and intelligent conversion between them . But I can't find a link to any docs that show this anymore |
doh!.. I should have looked at that article link first. ;-)
Jerry 12-Jul-2007 [2516] | The Curl doc is not in HTML/PDF formats. It's a Curl Applet itself. After downloading and Installing the Curl IDE, you'll have the Curl document, which is an applet, like I said. You can find some interesting 2D / 3D Curl applets in the curl.com web site. I am impressed by its 2D / 3D ability. |
Graham 12-Jul-2007 [2517x2] | The curl people spammed us a few years ago |
a lot of people on the rebol mailing list were spammed by them
