[Tech News] Interesting technology
older newer | first last |
Pekr 27-Aug-2007 [2572] | heh, fast, even if it is JS only :-) |
Jerry 1-Sep-2007 [2573] | Python 3.0a1 Release: August 31st, 2007 http://www.python.org/download/releases/3.0/ Online Documentation is updated twice a day http://docs.python.org/dev/3.0/ |
DanielSz 1-Sep-2007 [2574] | That's very interesting, all the language designers working on the next version : Python 3, Perl 6, and of course Rebol 3, hoping to eliminate the mistakes of early design, and ready to break compatibility with the previous version for the sake of a brighter future. |
BrianW 4-Sep-2007 [2575] | I found the Python news interesting because Guido plans on maintaining the 2.x line for a while even after 3.0 has been released. Doing more than just bug fixes, I mean. It will be interesting to see how that works out. |
Geomol 4-Sep-2007 [2576] | http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/31/researchers-develop-a-360-degree-holographic-display/ |
btiffin 4-Sep-2007 [2577] | ISO votes no for first round of Microsoft's Open Office XML bid http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,136711-c,techindustrytrends/article.html |
Tomc 4-Sep-2007 [2578] | well hurrmph ... they will just have to go out and buy some more. |
btiffin 4-Sep-2007 [2579x2] | I'm pretty sure this was the fast-track vote. There is another round coming in 2008. |
And Open Office is supposed to read Office Open, I doubt I'll ever get used to Office Open seeing as I use Open Office.
Terry 6-Sep-2007 [2581] | http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/10_future_web_trends.php |
Jerry 6-Sep-2007 [2582] | http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcwin/bbcwin.html BBC Basic for Windows is tiny and powerful. |
btiffin 7-Sep-2007 [2583] | Jerry; Check out the Dialects forum. Geomol has written a starter bbcbasic interpretter in REBOL. |
Terry 7-Sep-2007 [2584] | And while you're at it, check out the 1937 Fords.. I hear they're the 'bees knees'. |
Jerry 7-Sep-2007 [2585] | btiffin, the point is not the BASIC language. it's the compiler. Most of the applications developed in BBC Basic for Windows is under 100 KB. Only one EXE, no DLLs needed. |
Henrik 11-Sep-2007 [2586] | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6vSxR6UKFM&mode=related&search=<-- someone made saltwater burn |
Gabriele 11-Sep-2007 [2587] | i don't understand - if he's just using radio waves to break the bonds between H and O in the water, then the energy he gets is exactly the same he puts in. it's not an energy source - he's just converting electricity into radio waves then into fire. |
Henrik 11-Sep-2007 [2588] | a clean way to make heat |
Gabriele 11-Sep-2007 [2589] | just use a resistor if you want heat from electricity ;) |
PatrickP61 11-Sep-2007 [2590] | I think the media just gets so hyped up on the headline idea of water as a fuel source. They do more damage than good! For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fuel_celllook under lawsuit |
btiffin 11-Sep-2007 [2591] | Yeah, let's teach people how to start the ocean on fire. Luckily it's not even close to break even on energy. I read his machine was using about 10 times more joules than was coming out of the burn. |
Henrik 12-Sep-2007 [2592x2] | People seem to believe that there is talk about a perpetual motion machine, which of course isn't true. Same with the water fuel cell, which has a strange and sad story, but seems to be moving forward now. |
Converting water into something burnable with radiowaves is a big thing. It's a new discovery, which is something _really_ rare these days. Something that can open up new fields of science. If you can do this with water, what can you do with other liquids/gases?
Pekr 12-Sep-2007 [2594x2] | QNX Opens it Neutrino micro kernel OS source code - http://www.qnx.com/news/pr_2471_1.html |
http://www.osnews.com/story.php/18596/QNX-Opens-Neutrino-Source-Code-Interview-QNX-CEO/
Gabriele 12-Sep-2007 [2596] | henrik, microwaves being absorbed by matter is not that new ;) surely this is an interesting discovery, but it's not really breaking news. |
Sunanda 12-Sep-2007 [2597] | new google search parameter to return what pages are newly indexed [almost the same as new] on the site: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/useful-google-feature-better-date-search/ eg, for rebol.net http://www.google.com/search?q=site:rebol.net&as_qdr=d7 |
Graham 12-Sep-2007 [2598] | QNX open sources it's microkernel http://www.qnx.com/ |
Henrik 14-Sep-2007 [2599] | remember when we talked about how to avoid spambots on Carl's blog and on rebol sites in general? For once Microsoft seem to have come up with something good: http://research.microsoft.com/asirra/ |
Oldes 14-Sep-2007 [2600] | I don't think it's good |
Henrik 14-Sep-2007 [2601] | why not? it's great |
Oldes 14-Sep-2007 [2602x2] | because every visit to your page will be logged on some microsoft project site, whatever it is. And I don't want to click on dogs and cats as I don't want to rewrite crypted texts. I'm human, not a robot so why to do that? I still prefere other methods how to avaid spam. Which is for example for inserted by javascript and or IP blocking on the server side if someone relly sucks (and I never had to do that) |
(inserted form) | |
Rebolek 14-Sep-2007 [2604] | So what about people without javascript? They have no right to see the page? Bad method I think. |
Graham 14-Sep-2007 [2605] | http://www.regdeveloper.com/2007/09/13/ubuntu_jeos_vmware/ The Ubuntu developers are releasing a stripped down version just to run vmware |
Henrik 15-Sep-2007 [2606] | http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070914/laf040.html?.v=101<--- SCO files chapter 11. |
Jerry 15-Sep-2007 [2607x4] | CodeGear Ruby IDE is almost done. http://grabtherail.com/ |
It's called 3rd Rail, watch the video here http://video.codegear.com/3rdRail/TourOfTheIDE/TourOfTheIDE.html
Remember the mac guy pc guy commercial? there is a java guy and ruby guy video. it's so funny http://www.grabtherail.com/ImRuby.html
We probably should make a commercials like this. Hello I REBOL "and I am Ruby" ... Making funny video is one of the good ways to get noticed.
Robert 15-Sep-2007 [2611x2] | Graham, cool thing. I'm seeking for something like this being based on Debian. |
Anyone know if this exists?
Graham 15-Sep-2007 [2613x2] | I got classified as a bot when I tried the asirra test :( |
Interestingly they plan to use geolocation services to show animals that are close to you in case you get tempted and want to adopt one of the animals.
Terry 15-Sep-2007 [2615] | Hello, I'm Rebol .... "and I'm .. er sorry, who did you say you are?" |
btiffin 15-Sep-2007 [2616] | Robert, not sure if you want a Virtual Debian or a Host Debian, but check this small page. Note: I've not tried any virtualization myself. Live dangerously and practice unprotected computing. :) http://linux.simple.be/vmware/More deets at http://www.howtoforge.com/debian_etch_vmware_server_howto and finally as a appliance http://www.visoracle.com/download/debian/ |
Robert 16-Sep-2007 [2617] | Thanks for the links. |
btiffin 17-Sep-2007 [2618] | So it seems North Americans have to rely on Europe to reign in Microsoft. Thanks Europe, well done. http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/microsoft/archives/121933.asp?from=blog_last3 |
Robert 17-Sep-2007 [2619x3] | A new kind to streamline public finances... |
But I too think they are right.
