Maxim 12-Jan-2009 [3553] | so I can see that if you remove part of the understanding (to allow to create its own categories of things) and instead build an associative system of context, it can become quite adept IMHO at making smart deductions. |
Janko 12-Jan-2009 [3554] | no offense to anyone just my oppinion.. but I don't really like these words together: "expansion of human intelligence, longevity, and morality.. life extension" |
Reichart 12-Jan-2009 [3555] | :) |
btiffin 12-Jan-2009 [3556] | The 30th alpha build of the 3rd edition of REBOL was released to a larger team of developers and testers on 12-Jan-2009 |
Graham 12-Jan-2009 [3557x2] | are we a team? |
Team REBOL ? | |
Kaj 12-Jan-2009 [3559] | Be there in a sec :-) |
Graham 12-Jan-2009 [3560] | Ah... the old days of Team Amiga |
Maxim 12-Jan-2009 [3561] | :-) |
Chris 12-Jan-2009 [3562] | What is the collective noun for cats? |
Kaj 12-Jan-2009 [3563] | They donīt do collectives :-) |
btiffin 12-Jan-2009 [3564x2] | Clowder; and Kaj, point a laser beam onto the pavement of an inner city parking lot near a dumpster the clowder will form in short order. :) |
Less fun, more apro might be cluster or clutter ... I'd rather be in a clowder.
Chris 12-Jan-2009 [3566] | Hmm, what's the Reboller equivalent of a laser beam? |
Reichart 13-Jan-2009 [3567x2] | I had this urge to be a smart ass and write "Lemmings..." Kaj, yes they do...they are called a Pride, and they work together to take down prey. I would say you a group fo REBOLLers is a "Force" |
say to you | |
btiffin 13-Jan-2009 [3569] | The rebol equivalent of a laser beam? REBOL? or Carl? |
Maxim 13-Jan-2009 [3570x2] | a devcon with carl in it? |
carl == Carl | |
Pekr 13-Jan-2009 [3572x2] | Mozilla Labs Ubiquity project - web mashups, dialected/keyword searches, information integration. Interesting (watch the video) - http://labs.mozilla.com/projects/ubiquity/ |
We need some higher level R3 VID3.4 layer, something like Amiga Arexx port commands concept, which you export for others to utilise your existing app :-)
Kaj 13-Jan-2009 [3574] | R/S |
AdrianS 13-Jan-2009 [3575] | Reichart - could you please post to this group any additional info you get about AdaptiveAI? - I'm pretty hyped over the technology. Thanks |
Reichart 13-Jan-2009 [3576] | Will do... |
Steeve 13-Jan-2009 [3577] | In the Wiki, Carl added a link to the rebdev mobile client: http://www.rebol.net/cgi-bin/rebdev-web.r |
Rebolek 14-Jan-2009 [3578] | Youtube wants their users to use some different service: http://mashable.com/2009/01/14/youtube-mutes-videos/ |
[unknown: 5] 14-Jan-2009 [3579] | Good for Youtube. There has been blatant disregard for musicians on Youtube. |
Chris 14-Jan-2009 [3580] | Case in point, kind of: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/10/stifled-by-copy.html |
btiffin 14-Jan-2009 [3581] | People should just follow the Grateful Dead. Open Music (post Record Company Era) has been flourishing amongst the hippies for 40 years now. ;) |
[unknown: 5] 14-Jan-2009 [3582] | There already is open music. And glad to see that Youtube is addressing McCain's criticism's FINALLY. |
Allen 14-Jan-2009 [3583] | Again the music industry finds another way to keep lawyers employed. :-) It just means bands and labels who give permission are the tracks we will here & buy. So the restrictive ones miss out on being widely promoted. Similar thing happened here when music industry tried to get paid to play their promo-videos on tv |
[unknown: 5] 14-Jan-2009 [3584] | Their is so much other music from great artist that people can download for free. I don't know why people are fussing about certain artists getting their money. They contracted with record companies who are going to get most of the money but they will definately also reap more money as a result of this. Let them have their due. Breaking the law is breaking the law. |
Allen 14-Jan-2009 [3585] | If the artist got their money I'd be happy, the issue for me is most of it is going up the noses of the lawyers and pr people. At least itunes & emusic make it easy for independant bands to get distribution and money now. |
Chris 14-Jan-2009 [3586] | P: finally? Seems like a repudiation? |
[unknown: 5] 14-Jan-2009 [3587] | Sounds like they are getting with the program to me. |
btiffin 15-Jan-2009 [3588x2] | I once saw an interview with Allannah Myles. When her album Allanna Myles hit number 1 and Black Velvet was on every radio, she was worried she couldn't pay rent. She still owed 1.5 million on her "contract" and the label had already pocketed 5 million. We should always let sharks eat young keen artists. It's a fantastic system. Like the lottery. Sure, someone gets a million dollars every week. A |
hmm, altme is tweaking my ^S setting ... sorry. And society spends far more for the privilege. We should continue to support these systems whole heartedly. It's always great to give legal backing to the few that take advantage of the naive. Beautiful system, that should never be questioned, only revered and backed up with gun power and threats of jail.
NickA 15-Jan-2009 [3590x2] | Artists will almost always choose to receive the free promotion. It's the publishers and labels who don |
't want to see it.. | |
[unknown: 5] 15-Jan-2009 [3592] | Sounds like Myles didn't have a lawyer and just blindly signed a contract. |
NickA 15-Jan-2009 [3593] | And that's not just the little guys who are trying to make it. I have several close friends who've sold tens of millions of albums who feel the same way without reservation. |
[unknown: 5] 15-Jan-2009 [3594] | I don't get it? What is the problem? Artist can give away their music if they want to. Why should they care of others don't want to? |
NickA 15-Jan-2009 [3595x2] | Having more people hear the music for free typically leads to more album sales. |
One of the best selling albums of the past few years was one that was given away freely.
[unknown: 5] 15-Jan-2009 [3597] | NickA, you need to tell the Record Labels this then for obviously they didn't know this and didn't do any research. You sound like you got it all figured out. |
NickA 15-Jan-2009 [3598x2] | I'm in the industry, and have been for 22 years. The reason the record companies don |
't want to see the industry going the way it's going is because it cuts out the need for their services all together.
[unknown: 5] 15-Jan-2009 [3600x3] | I wonder why Metallica doesn't get it then? |
Why do these musicians get awards at shows and thank their label?
Why do they use a label? | |
