Works now for me too. It was down for a half-hour here. Weird.

Sometimes when I think a website is down, it turns out to be some

Reichart...I agree. I do not understand with the millions, maybe 
billions lost in time, resources etc why there is not some  agency 
set up to get this type of scam....they are hiding in plain site.

My take - a pity Palm was not bought by HTC. For me HP is big failure.

By asking me if it is a "prohibited business practice" he is implying 
it is a business in the first place.
I see no evidence this is a real product, or a business.


In any case, let's pretend that it is a real product, now let's pretend 
(and this does not require much of a stretch) that it gets onto your 
doctor's computer, who is trying to look up an emergency peice of 
data.


This softtware actually PREVENTS other software from running on your 
computer.


If we prove malice, which is not hard to do here, then ALL issues 
are open.  It is not going to happen, but I would fight for this 
to be a felony, and put them in prison:

- Obstruciton of justive
- Distrubing the piece
- You can tack on to anything "With teh intent to do harm"

Pekr, my understanding is that HP's purchase of Compaq was a big 
mistake for HP.  Compaq's desktop business was low value, and their 
servers were also low end.  I believe they lost a lot on that one.

The view is that HP has purchased Palm to get access to WebOS so 
that they didn't have to develop their own.  The own slate compared 
with the iPad is a dog in terms of battery life, speed and  screen 
resolution, and they had long given up on Arm devices.

And WebOS being linux based will run on their x86 slate ... .  HP 
will then end up with the whole stack

And since Rebol can't get on to the iPad, we should have access to 
HP's slate instead .. so this looks good for us.

Plus, HP's leadership when they purchased Compaq is completely different 
from who runs the company now.

Interesting - I interpreted it as "MS employees are prohibited from 
promising anything they might not deliver, especially after the Longhorn 
debacle". They don't say they aren't doing Canvas, just that they 
can't commit to doing Canvas. Clearly the IE team wants to, but since 
they haven't started writing the code yet they are being smart and 
not making promises. The IE team hasn't been preannouncing features 
until they can *demonstrate* features.

thanks Reichart - I was feeling a little too relaxed - that got the 
blood boiling

the concept of software patents in the US is, in practice, basically 
the same as nuclear weapons. you have to have them as a "defense" 
against other companies. it's something you keep there, so that other 
companies will think twice before attacking you.

I'm more for the guerillia tactics: Don't care about it, just release 
the apps in a way that it's not trackable who did them and build 
an indirect consulting business around it.

ah, but then it's simpler than that. just let the US lose all tech 
advantage in the software world. when they realize the problem they'll 
get rid of software patents. when products can be sold almost everywhere 
in the world except in the US... people will start to understand 
the issue.

yes, that tactics can work, except it is a problem if the EC succeeds 
to push the software patents down our throats too. Moreover, there 
already are some patents of this kind accepted by EPO - see e.g.

the letter and spirit of the written law"
