BrianH 23-Apr-2010 [4853] | Works now for me too. It was down for a half-hour here. Weird. |
Sunanda 24-Apr-2010 [4854] | Sometimes when I think a website is down, it turns out to be some problem at my (or my ISP's) end. This is a good way to check: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ |
Graham 24-Apr-2010 [4855] | Or, http://downforrt.com/ |
Janko 24-Apr-2010 [4856] | I saw people saying that FB is down on twitter too. My guess it needed to reboot to switch into now I own the whole internet mode (did you hear about new features presented on f8)? |
Reichart 24-Apr-2010 [4857] | It was down for me in Hawaii FTR. |
Sunanda 27-Apr-2010 [4858] | Nice analysis of the recent attack on apache.org: https://blogs.apache.org/infra/entry/apache_org_04_09_2010 |
Gregg 27-Apr-2010 [4859] | Great info. Thanks for posting that Sunanda. |
Graham 27-Apr-2010 [4860x2] | I got the email from Atlassian too about their attack |
I had been testing confluence and Jira
Pekr 28-Apr-2010 [4862] | Opera 10.5.2 for MAC released - http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2010/04/27/ |
Reichart 28-Apr-2010 [4863] | When ever I read something like this it is like I just got news a friend was murdered while working around their house. There is a virus called Security Tool. It is really evil, http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-security-tool.html But what gets me is, with something like this, that is so popular, why have we not hunted down the assholes that wrote it, and made a public example of them? |
Pekr 28-Apr-2010 [4864x2] | Never heard of this one - EKEN M001 "Tablet", 100 USD price level ... article is in Czech, but contains photos and video .... http://www.zive.cz/clanky/eken-m001-maly-tablet-pc-s-androidem-za-dva-tisice/sc-3-a-152037/default.aspx |
Reichart - aren't those prohibited business practicess? It is misleading customers.
amacleod 28-Apr-2010 [4866] | Reichart...I agree. I do not understand with the millions, maybe billions lost in time, resources etc why there is not some agency set up to get this type of scam....they are hiding in plain site. |
AdrianS 28-Apr-2010 [4867] | Kind of interesting - zoomable web sites http://ahead.com/#view/lilaspaces/main/welcome?scene=HOME |
Pekr 29-Apr-2010 [4868] | HP buys Palm ... http://www.osnews.com/story/23221/HP_Buys_Palm My take - a pity Palm was not bought by HTC. For me HP is big failure. Company without a vision, who killed Compaq by the merge. |
Reichart 29-Apr-2010 [4869] | Pekr, it is an actual federal crime, and could be considered an act of war! I'm not clear why they don't go after this. |
Pekr 29-Apr-2010 [4870] | I am not sure I can understand. Is it a sarcasm? :-) |
TomBon 29-Apr-2010 [4871] | ..hunted down... / ...act of war... looks like the media-(I.tell you the thruth!)-meme just reached maui ;-)) |
Reichart 29-Apr-2010 [4872] | Just to make sure we are all clear here... I'm using no humour. I believe Pekr to have asked me about the link I posted to the virus called "Security Tool". By asking me if it is a "prohibited business practice" he is implying it is a business in the first place. I see no evidence this is a real product, or a business. In any case, let's pretend that it is a real product, now let's pretend (and this does not require much of a stretch) that it gets onto your doctor's computer, who is trying to look up an emergency peice of data. This softtware actually PREVENTS other software from running on your computer. If we prove malice, which is not hard to do here, then ALL issues are open. It is not going to happen, but I would fight for this to be a felony, and put them in prison: - Obstruciton of justive - Distrubing the piece - You can tack on to anything "With teh intent to do harm" etc. |
TomBon 30-Apr-2010 [4873x2] | who don't remember the situation where do you wish having direct access to a virus hacker's face in the moment you are cleaning up your computer. but what I mean with my post was not humor also, it was about relation. for a very short moment your words (hunted/war) remind me a to another person using this 'size of reality building symbols' very strongly with a current result many people don't like. it is also significant to see how words going into a kind of inflation and devaluating quickly by it's unrelational usage supported by the media. therefore the reference to the media who is responible for this. |
on the other hand and just to make it complete, the media industry gave so much love for free, I can't say how much I appreciating this. they teached us don't spare to much on using love, there are important items for us which deserve it, really! like to love a cheese? no problem, now we can... like to love a new flat TV? no problem, we can now also... like to love a fatty, stinky, unhealthy burger? well this was difficult but now...guess! and the real benefit we have with this fantastic memetic innovation is a nice usefull inflation. (yes, as mentioned this works on words too). we are now in the convenienced position to use this word daily without the risk of any deeper meaning and the best of all is, the more we are using this word for all these other important things, the lower the 'ancient' value by time. btw I love you all...(this is real progress isn't it? :-)))))
yeksoon 30-Apr-2010 [4875] | Amazon AWS is now officially available in Singapore (serving the APAC regions). http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2010/04/now-open-aws-region-in-asia-pacific.html |
Reichart 30-Apr-2010 [4876] | Cool. |
Graham 30-Apr-2010 [4877x5] | Pekr, my understanding is that HP's purchase of Compaq was a big mistake for HP. Compaq's desktop business was low value, and their servers were also low end. I believe they lost a lot on that one. |
The view is that HP has purchased Palm to get access to WebOS so that they didn't have to develop their own. The own slate compared with the iPad is a dog in terms of battery life, speed and screen resolution, and they had long given up on Arm devices.
their own ... | |
And WebOS being linux based will run on their x86 slate ... . HP will then end up with the whole stack
And since Rebol can't get on to the iPad, we should have access to HP's slate instead .. so this looks good for us.
BrianH 30-Apr-2010 [4882] | Plus, HP's leadership when they purchased Compaq is completely different from who runs the company now. |
Henrik 6-May-2010 [4883] | http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/05/05/microsoft_ie9_and_canvasn/ IE9 won't support HTML5 canvas. |
Pekr 6-May-2010 [4884] | Interesting and surprising - they wanted to position themselves to the top again ... |
AdrianS 6-May-2010 [4885] | I believe on of the commenters is right in that MS wants to push for Silverlight adoption. |
BrianH 6-May-2010 [4886] | Interesting - I interpreted it as "MS employees are prohibited from promising anything they might not deliver, especially after the Longhorn debacle". They don't say they aren't doing Canvas, just that they can't commit to doing Canvas. Clearly the IE team wants to, but since they haven't started writing the code yet they are being smart and not making promises. The IE team hasn't been preannouncing features until they can *demonstrate* features. |
Reichart 8-May-2010 [4887] | http://video.golem.de/politik-recht/3070/patent-absurdity-dokumentarfilm.html |
AdrianS 9-May-2010 [4888] | thanks Reichart - I was feeling a little too relaxed - that got the blood boiling |
Gabriele 9-May-2010 [4889] | the concept of software patents in the US is, in practice, basically the same as nuclear weapons. you have to have them as a "defense" against other companies. it's something you keep there, so that other companies will think twice before attacking you. |
Robert 9-May-2010 [4890] | I'm more for the guerillia tactics: Don't care about it, just release the apps in a way that it's not trackable who did them and build an indirect consulting business around it. |
Gabriele 9-May-2010 [4891] | ah, but then it's simpler than that. just let the US lose all tech advantage in the software world. when they realize the problem they'll get rid of software patents. when products can be sold almost everywhere in the world except in the US... people will start to understand the issue. |
Ladislav 9-May-2010 [4892x3] | yes, that tactics can work, except it is a problem if the EC succeeds to push the software patents down our throats too. Moreover, there already are some patents of this kind accepted by EPO - see e.g. http://eupat.ffii.org/10/03/bessen/, even though it is "against the letter and spirit of the written law" |

Pekr 10-May-2010 [4896] | :-) |
Henrik 10-May-2010 [4897] | *somebody* is making money there... |
Pekr 11-May-2010 [4898] | http://www.osnews.com/story/23275/Adobe_Shows_Off_Flash_10_1_on_Android_Impresses |
Maxim 13-May-2010 [4899] | ouch limewire all set to go bust! http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/05/major-copyright-defeat-tastes-sour-for-limewire.ars |
Pekr 15-May-2010 [4900x2] | Google releases preview of their "Native client" SDK - http://blog.chromium.org/2010/05/sneak-peek-at-native-client-sdk.html |
Those ppl are just admitting, that the REBOL way was correct from the very beginning - to have "rich client", which can do stuff for you things directly on user's machine - no server, no html ... how funny ....
amacleod 15-May-2010 [4902] | Right. Just need some seemless means of R3 interacting in the browser...back to plug-in? |
