Sunanda 2-Sep-2010 [5153] | Mush.....may be a US journalistic meme: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mush_from_the_Wimp |
Izkata 2-Sep-2010 [5154x2] | ...Huh, I skipped right over "mush" and saw that "tested" should be "testing" |
Interesting link | |
Pekr 9-Sep-2010 [5156] | Nice :-) http://www.osnews.com/story/23784/ARM_Unveils_Cortex-A15_Up_to_2_5Ghz_Quad-core |
Mchean 9-Sep-2010 [5157] | http://www.osnews.com/story/23785/Apple_Caves_Drops_Ban_on_iOS_Third-party_Development_Tools |
Pekr 10-Sep-2010 [5158] | Dunno why it is being considered a breaking news, but OSNews.com seems to be happy about Broadcom open-sourcing their drivers :-) http://www.osnews.com/story/23786/BREAKING_BROADCOM_OPEN_SOURCES_WIRELESS_DRIVERS |
Henrik 16-Sep-2010 [5159] | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geqip_0Vjec Those quadrocopters are getting crazier by the week. |
Pekr 16-Sep-2010 [5160] | scary :-) |
Maxim 16-Sep-2010 [5161x2] | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2bExqhhWRI&feature=related |
two highlights of that "dog" are when it recuperates (in real time) when pushed sideways... the other is at the end... when it starts running and JUMPS over a 3 ft wide obstacle... look at how precisely its hind-legs land just beyond the obstacle... waiting for the proper balance to occur... now THAT is downright scary
Henrik 16-Sep-2010 [5163] | Maxim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXJZVZFRFJc |
AdrianS 16-Sep-2010 [5164x2] | Maxim, that's the old video - there's a new, improved robot now |
wow Henrik - that one is so advanced!
Sunanda 16-Sep-2010 [5166] | Earlier prototype (unweaponised): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntR12VcbeqE |
Maxim 16-Sep-2010 [5167x3] | henrik, hahaha |
weaponized "bigdog" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptyV1cpE14o&feature=related
OMG it has a pup! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIipbi0cAVE&NR=1
Reichart 16-Sep-2010 [5170] | IT is getting there. With the copters, it means one day truly having "flying cars" because the control systems should be good enough they evoid "everything" but let you pick a place to "go". |
TomBon 16-Sep-2010 [5171x2] | funny, I am currently in brazil and there is a gyrocopter producer here near sao paulo which I will visit next week. will try a ride... :-)) |
btw, does somebody has a advice for getting a helicopter license in the USA? found many in the net but would appreciate a local advice for the best location.
Reichart 17-Sep-2010 [5173x2] | You "really" want to learn to fly a helictoper? It takes a lot of study, is time consuming, very hard to get time on a machine, expensive, and, THEN what? |
Just asking... | |
Steeve 17-Sep-2010 [5175x3] | like Rebol, somewhat... |
Just joking... | |
Just joking... | |
TomBon 17-Sep-2010 [5178] | of course I really want to get the license. why not? investing in personal abilities is always a good choice. but in general you are right, making this license without the intention of some commercial usage could be seen as wasting time... execpting for me, at least I can add this to my fixed wing I made many years ago and what comes after the THEN? well, the last time I flew is many years ago but hey man...it was a original refurbished tiger moth at one of the coolest location ever. as you can see I can use it also to brag a little bit ;-) but ok, this is a little off topic for this channel... |
Henrik 19-Sep-2010 [5179] | http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=94185&show=summary I wonder if this is good for learning TCP/IP. |
Graham 19-Sep-2010 [5180] | Is this like Simon's Basic? |
Henrik 19-Sep-2010 [5181] | it seems to be an extension for plain BASIC. |
Geomol 20-Sep-2010 [5182] | Yeah, TCP extension commands to BASIC: http://lyonlabs.org/commodore/kb-bob/KB.htm Quite cute, I think. It could be good for learning TCP/IP, as it's very basic. :) |
Maxim 20-Sep-2010 [5183] | why is it that those Hex error numbers got me all warm and fuzzy when I saw them? :-) |
Robert 21-Sep-2010 [5184] | http://www.returninfinity.com/baremetal.html Quite interesting OS Kernel stuff. |
Pekr 21-Sep-2010 [5185x2] | Robert - what do you think of L4 microkernels? Written in C, platform independent API, BSD, comes from Germany :-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L4_microkernel_family |
Qt 4.7 is out. It sports QML, a declarative GUI definition. So far JAVA FX was the closest match for declarative VID. But JAVA FX is pretty much irrelevant. Qt is much more important otoh (my opinion) - now you can look at the examples - VID's no more unique - now even monkey can code in Qt, and get kind of cross-platform :-) http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/qdeclarativeexamples.html
Maxim 21-Sep-2010 [5187x2] | return infinity is quite appealing :-) |
OMG !!! As of the current version with the full CLI and internal functions, the operating system binary is only 16384 bytes. A standard "Hello, World!" example compiles to a file of only 31 bytes.
Gregg 21-Sep-2010 [5189x2] | Don't tell Carl about return infinity, he'll think REBOL is too bloated. |
Qt has some really nice ideas in it. Note the importance they place on being able to create slick GUIs, but with the note that business apps only need a little slickeness around the edges. And the prominence of a state machine engine at the core.
Maxim 21-Sep-2010 [5191] | I also thought the guis looked a lot like rebol. |
Graham 21-Sep-2010 [5192x2] | Anything we can use? |
Was this an open source development or a Nokia team that did this?
Gregg 22-Sep-2010 [5194] | It's C++ oriented, but they have some new higher-level stuff. e.g. the declarative UI dialect Petr mentioned. |
Geomol 22-Sep-2010 [5195] | Qt was developed by norwegian company Trolltech starting in 1991, and was acquired by Nokia in 2008. |
Pekr 22-Sep-2010 [5196] | How big is the package? I do remember some talks about using Qt as a potential View replacement, but IIRC BrianH expressed, that integrating Qt with REBOL would be difficult. |
Geomol 22-Sep-2010 [5197x2] | You can look at http://qt.nokia.com/downloadsand choose "Go LGPL". A few 100 MB, it seems. But there are many modules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qt_%28framework%29#Modules Maybe only a fracton is needed? |
*fraction* | |
Graham 22-Sep-2010 [5199] | Was the thesis that integrating Qt would be more than writing R3gui? |
Henrik 22-Sep-2010 [5200] | starting in 1991... ok, if we are allowed to develop on the R3 GUI for 19 years, we can probably get pretty far :-) |
Graham 22-Sep-2010 [5201] | Are Danes better programmers than Norwegians? :) |
Geomol 22-Sep-2010 [5202] | Of course! ;P |
