Oldes 30-Jan-2011 [5653] | I guess it will be pretty different. |
Henrik 31-Jan-2011 [5654] | http://www.portable-digital-video-recorder.com/shmoocon-2011-printers-gone-wild/ Networked HP printers contain a number of security issues. |
Maxim 31-Jan-2011 [5655] | I've had fun sending commands to printers a few years ago, its a lot of fun :-) |
Henrik 31-Jan-2011 [5656] | I did it too. I didn't find it particularly amusing, since different printers understand them differently. :-( |
Maxim 31-Jan-2011 [5657] | depends why you're playing with that... I was just hacking my printer for fun... trying to build a print manager... that's another story ;-) |
Henrik 31-Jan-2011 [5658] | I managed to build one, which is simple. Sending commands to the printer, I had to give up and chose to build postscript files for an adobe postscript driver instead and let it handle the rest. |
Henrik 1-Feb-2011 [5659] | http://www.exploringbinary.com/java-hangs-when-converting-2-2250738585072012e-308/ Interesting. Java has the same flaw that PHP had with a specific number. |
Henrik 2-Feb-2011 [5660] | http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/microsofts-bing-uses-google-search.html This is almost funny. |
DideC 2-Feb-2011 [5661] | Very funny ! |
Dockimbel 2-Feb-2011 [5662] | Final IPv4 Blocks Allocated : http://www.infoq.com/news/2011/02/ipv4-exhaustion |
Henrik 4-Feb-2011 [5663] | http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com/ Browse the human body using WebGL. |
AdrianS 4-Feb-2011 [5664] | wow - that's amazing stuff |
Pekr 7-Feb-2011 [5665] | Nokia experiments with the Bubble interface - IIRC, it is QML based (Qt's VID inspired declarative aproach, second one, after JavaFX) http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/nokia-experiments-with-bubbles-interface-on-symbian-cell-phones-2011024/ Just not sure I want to chase bubble around to get some action done :-) |
TomBon 7-Feb-2011 [5666] | a good design characterizing itself by immediate function transparency. this is....well...what is it? |
Henrik 7-Feb-2011 [5667] | one quick improvement would be to make the bubbles not move. |
Reichart 7-Feb-2011 [5668] | LOL! (that is all I can say about the bubbles) oh wait..........now the "LOL" has floated down here in the message.......whoa..............it floated over here "LOL". LOL... |
Andreas 7-Feb-2011 [5669] | debian 6.0 "squeeze" released http://www.debian.org/News/2011/20110205a |
GrahamC 9-Feb-2011 [5670x2] | http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/hps-touchpad-tablet-smartphones-put-webos-back-into-the-game/44636?tag=nl.e589 HP's impressive tablet using WebOS |
snapdragon I presume is an Arm processor
Pekr 10-Feb-2011 [5672] | Snapdragon is Qualcom's ARM based CPU/chipset. OMAP is Texas Instruments. Samsung has its own, nVidia has Tegra, Broadcom is another big one I know. Full list of licensees can be seen here: http://www.arm.com/products/processors/licensees.php |
GrahamC 10-Feb-2011 [5673x2] | If the HP's WebOs takes off .. maybe we don't need to port to Android :) |
Isn't WebOS a Linux variant?
Ashley 10-Feb-2011 [5675] | Yes, "a proprietary mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel, initially developed by Palm and purchased by Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2010." |
BrianH 10-Feb-2011 [5676] | We need an Android port. Otherwise, how would I run R3 on my phone? |
Robert 10-Feb-2011 [5677] | I'm convinced that HP will succeed to fail with WebOS. Wrong CEO and a lot of HP products are mostly crap. |
BrianH 10-Feb-2011 [5678] | HP has been succeeding with crappy products for years, so they might succeed with this. Too big to fail completely. |
GrahamC 10-Feb-2011 [5679x3] | HP's slate runs flash .. you need flash to view porn. Ergo, this slate will sell. |
Furthermore, HP has been giving away slates free with their printers .. as printer control devices.
They can continue to do that for their servers
Henrik 10-Feb-2011 [5682] | Well, at least they just straight up copy the iPad now. I'm sure they only announce now, because the iPad is about to be updated. |
Pekr 10-Feb-2011 [5683] | I never liked HP, dunno why :-) I worst thing is, I have no reason to hate them :-) But - in big corporate world, I grew-up in IBM land. IBM was "frienlie", because of PowerPC = Amiga :-) HP killed Compaq, which I liked more. Pity HTC had not enough of money to buy Palm. I am not also sure I like the fact that so cool OS as QNX is, is owned by RIM. We have BBs here, and I will have one in few months too, but BB is being regarded mostly a corporate cell phone. |
Henrik 10-Feb-2011 [5684] | HP was once an engineering company, but no more. |
Pekr 10-Feb-2011 [5685x2] | Oh, and HP printers are forbidden in my home, and PC store, unless customer really wants HP :-) We use Canons for ink printers. HP killed my trust with 300 MB+ drivers crap |
Henrik - yes, IBM is an engineering company even less? :-( They sold their PC business to LENOVO. PowerPC is mostly in hands of Freescale (Motorola). And I doubt IBM will be contracted once again for the next gen consoles (if there will be any such devices in future).
Henrik 10-Feb-2011 [5687] | I'm in doubt as to what hardware is reliable nowadays. The brands that used to be reliable are now reduced to the same quality as everyone else. |
Kaj 10-Feb-2011 [5688] | Competitive pressure. To be honest, this drive to mediocrity is possible because the low quality products have also moved to average. Quality is not distinctive enough anymore |
Reichart 10-Feb-2011 [5689] | It is interesting watching someone REALLY use a tablet for "work". One of my lawyers has had an iPad for a while. I have been telling him he can use it with Qtask in a really powerful way, and he finally took the 3 minutes that was required to make his life easier. We installed http://readdle.com/(I have been talking to the lead programmer for about a year now), and signed into Qtask with it. Now he can see all his matters, download (and they made it about x4 faster than Windows), and now mark up docs, save to Qtask through WebDAV. I personally sitll have no use for a tablet, and I have an iPad which I'm about to sell because I simply don't use it. For me to really use a Tablet I want forward/backwards camera, 10+ battery life, G3 and G4 wireless, an OS that allows me to get to the files and Flash. (in fact, I''m reminded of how much I hate the iPad and my iPhone again LOL). |
Pekr 10-Feb-2011 [5690x2] | Reichart - no problem with upcoming tablet releases no? Mororola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, or even HP's offerings? Not to mention RIM QNX based PlayBook? |
And I think iPad2 will add cams too, or so I remember I read somewhere ...
DideC 10-Feb-2011 [5692] | Yeah Ipad2 will be a "larger iPhone4", so with the 2 cameras. |
Reichart 10-Feb-2011 [5693] | Yeah, I "done" with iPhone. It is a GREAT little device for most people though. I'm going Andriod all the way until proven otherwise. |
GrahamC 10-Feb-2011 [5694] | What's great about the iPad is that it has shown HP and the others that engineering and innovation is important, and one should not bet the farm on Microsoft. |
Reichart 10-Feb-2011 [5695] | Agreed. |
BrianH 10-Feb-2011 [5696] | The main thing I like about WebOS and WP7 as opposed to Android is that they don't copy iOS where it counts: the UI. Both have different UI models with real advantages over the iOS/Android model. |
Izkata 10-Feb-2011 [5697] | Although in Android, home screens are replaceable, which is its advantage in that area - some of the more unusual ones are SweeterHome (which I use), SlideScreen, *Spark, and Windows Phone (which just attempts to copy Windows Phone 7) |
Pekr 11-Feb-2011 [5698] | So it is official - Nokia partners with Microsoft -no answers to what happens to Symbian/MeeGo strategy yet though: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/11/nokia-and-microsoft-enter-strategic-alliance-on-windows-phone-b/ |
GrahamC 11-Feb-2011 [5699x2] | There are other mobile ecosystems. We will disrupt them. There will be challenges. We will overcome them. Success requires speed. We will be swift. Together, we see the opportunity, and we have the will, the resources and the drive to succeed."" |
Pity we don't have that same drive ...
Pekr 11-Feb-2011 [5701x2] | We don't have money :-) |
And everything is about money, remember. If someone would sponsor Carl to work fulltime R3, the situation would be different.
