Graham, You are correct. So far I am only interested on having developers
in that room.
Public room reopen. http://orca.campfirenow.com/7e4bf

How to get in as guest?
JaimeVargas

[160]
The click above should just work.
Kaj

[161]
I still have to give a name and password
JaimeVargas

[162]
Just a nickname

It doesn't work without cookies, and gives no indication. Worse,
it asks email and password
I see no messages

Did you use the link above? I just tested in a pristine browser and
it only asked me for a nickname.

Only if you have cookies enabled

Guest access doesn't give you allow you to see the transcripts or
any history.

The page looks rather incomplete

Maybe we could use Google Groups beta ?
http://groups.google.com/intl/en/googlegroups/about.html

create, join and search email-based mailing lists, and designate
your group as either public or restricted.

Postings to both Usenet and mailing lists appear in 10 seconds and
are indexed within 10 minutes.
I haven't tried Google Groups at all yet myself, but what do you
think ?

We wanted a more interactive channel. I have a public IRC channel
on freenode setup too.
The only missing thing for IRC channel is logs.

Are you able perhaps to provide a machine for use as a server ? We
could install something ourselves.
JaimeVargas

[176]
What you have in mind?
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[177]
Perhaps we can find some open source chat software somewhere.
Henrik

it would be nice if AltME could carry a gateway to an HTML chat for
a single group
Anton

[179x3]
Or we could set up an altme world for free.
It's probably just as much burden to install altme as it is to log
in to a website.
We could write the code to reflect the altme chat to a website if
necessary. It's accepting chat from the web as well which starts
to make it a bit of a larger task.
Henrik

[182]
it would be prettier if the AltME server could serve the site itself.
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[183]
But I don't think we need a web gateway do we ?
Henrik

[184]
how does rebol.net get its chat lists? is it a separate script that
digs through the archives stored on one machine?
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[185x2]
Mmm, it's available for Win32, MacOSX and Debian Linux, OpenBSD on
the way.
I think so. I think Reichart set up a custom script just for Rebol3
world, and hasn't generalised it into a release version of AltME
yet.
Henrik

[187]
perhaps that is the way QTask works? I haven't figured out QTask
yet, but it seems to be messaging-agnostic, though webcentric.
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[188]
It's not webcentric, as Reichart is at pains to explain so often.
:) but that's what we get to look at most of the time at the moment.
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[189]
right
Anton

[190]
But back to the question: Is Win32, MacOSX and Debian Linux enough
for now ? Are all current orca developers covered by those supported
platforms ?
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[191]
I'm not sure that debian linux is enough, even if it's a big part
of them
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[192x3]
But maybe it will be a couple of years before a developer comes along
who is not covered by these platforms.
So it might be enough for now. I mean, it seems there's only about
8 people taking an interest at the moment.
On the other hand, there are lots of open source java chat apps.
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[195]
there is also plain IRC
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[196]
Mmm. that's true. Maybe we should just use IRC ?
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[197]
I take it that not all the developers are present here?
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[198]
No, at least one isn't.
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[199]
so it would be hard to lure him/her in here? :-)
Anton
12-Jul-2006
[200]
Very hard.
Henrik
12-Jul-2006
[201]
interesting
JaimeVargas

[202x3]
We have a plain IRC channel ready in freenode. Join the Orca channel.
That is the simplest. I just need to get meme9 to provide logs for
it. So people can get up to speed.
I rather spend time coding Orca than coding tools. IRC is fine for
chatting.
Henrik

are you Aquanaut?
JaimeVargas

Yes.
