Some link to hotels in the 5th district of Paris have been published

excellent - most sites are just reference to hotel search portals.
It would be really nice guys, if you would manage some eventual
hotel discounts for conference participants. Well, maybe a good idea
would be to advertise DevCon a bit, to know how many ppl would attend.
Or you can do it other way - reserve e.g. 30 rooms, and use FIFO
(first in first out) - even email would work to book room, no form
needed ...

Usually hotels will hold a block of rooms until about 2 - 3 weeks
prior to the event. We used a about 20 rooms in the previous two
years so asking for 30 would work. I did notice while in Paris last
year that there are many small hotels and the larger hotels can be
a bit pricey. I think it does benefit to have the attendees stay
in the same hotel.

Also, big price break by being a little of the main areas.

I really do worry about conference a bit. No proper activity/propagation,
call for sessions. The only one session so far is Carl's R3 introduction
.... Hopefully it will all come ...

If I could make it out in May, I would like to present a session.
But I don't think I'll be able to make it.

I think we are all just holding our breath... but things are about
to unblock... with things like hotel registrations about to go online.
who would publicize his session if he can't be sure of the arrangements.

yes, Max, it sounds logical ...
and maybe ... this year is special, ppl are awaiting R3 to be born
and change our future :-)

I should attend and have surprises, but I still have to clear the
budget and the organisation, I should do this by week's end.

I just registered Carl and myself for the conf. Does anyone know
how many have registered yet? I wonder if we should have a list of
attendees on the conf website or is that not a good idea?

hum... only if there are many people otherwise it makes it look like
a backyard club.

I will have to appreciate DevCon from afar, I'm afraid. It's been
a while since I've been able to leave the US (money, time).

somehow, the devcon should try to attract non rebolers of high profile...
maybe even pay some of the fees for them... we need the industry
to see just how proficient REBOL is, and now that its going to allow
so much more by allowing us to compile our own tools within the interpreter.
if Cyphre can show that OpenGL can be compiled within (with a proof
of concept demo, just to show that its actually possible), for example.
or link an html viewer module within view... again, not a full-blown
app... just a demo which show that it actually works.
this alone will open up REBOL to the rest of the industry.

Why not also attend general programming and technology conferences?
Not to be too much off topic, but do REBOLers have a visible profile
there?
(should really talk about that in advocacy)

yes and yes :-)

Well, the hotel data should come very soon... And, as said, no need
any more to hold your breath :-)

Just an idea purloined from the forthcoming International LISP Conference:
Why not a programming contest to co-incide with DevCon?

Maybe, but not games like that. I prefer when it's something that
needs to be done, but that everybody keeps putting off.
Maxim

I'd rather have a on-site dev contest.

How about a gauge contest.
See if we can do those flash gauges and put them up on a rebol plugin
page.

you have one hour to build the most impressive:
-parser (using parse)
-view app
-core app
all using notepad, and starting from scratch.
no web access either.
and I guess only a selection of files which anyone entering can use.
 :-)
Anton

That can only be enforced by people actually at the devcon.
Maxim

[70]
yep.
Anton

[71]
right, so I'm out.
Maxim

[72]
people need to have so reasons for attending no?
Anton
5-Feb-2007
[73]
like enough money for a plane ticket...
Maxim
5-Feb-2007
[74]
hehe... got to get out of australia ;-) your at the end of the
world missing out on all that's happening ;-)
Anton
5-Feb-2007
[75]
yeah it's a bit like that.
Maxim

Instead of doing a "competition" why not just have a panel look at
all that has been done and released in the public. anyone wishing
to submit stuff could also do so... if its not yet available or generally
unknown....
this way people who have worked already, can get the attention they
deserve.
not just people who have spare time cause their lives are bit less
"filled"...
I'm vouching for many of us who have famillies, jobs and other things
which don't allow us to put much time on hobbies...
Pekr

I would do it in following way - competition would be public. And
winners would be announced/choosed at DevCon, at the banquet :-)
Maxim

as I was saying on humour... I have many things to show off this
time at the devcon... and I think, will release many of my tools
there.
Graham
8-Feb-2007
[82]
shouldn't this still be on humour ?
Maxim
8-Feb-2007
[83]
humm I did show off many things at last devcon...
Graham
8-Feb-2007
[84]
bad joke! Max has never released anything on time!!
Maxim
8-Feb-2007
[85]
well not exactly... things are done I just have no time to release
them...
