Gabriele

Carl said he'll discuss R3 licensing/pricing later.. let's hope for
some fresh air in this area, or I'm afraid R3 will become a specialty
application for a very narrow user base, with a specific agenda.
3:20 a.m. here.. signing off.. enjoy the rest of the conference.

Goodnight, Terry.

I was actually looking forward to your presentation Reichart... too
bad for the tech issues.

I am bit concerned if View becomes proprietary.
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[530]
terry, i exclude that's the case. but we'll see :)

Other than only seeing Maxims ASS, this video is great. I think
we can make money for the fetish market that likes French Canadian
Geek Porn.

I'm riding my bicycle with some friends in about 4 hours...at a place
that two days ago all burned. We lost something like 300 hectacres.
Los Angeles lost a HUGE resource, Grifith Park burned to the ground.
Anton

[535]
That sounds terrible.

[538]
back... anything about when new info is released on the web on R3?
Pekr
10-May-2007
[539]
Gabriele - in what way is AltME a virtual OS?
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[540]
henrik - i'll ask soon. i think that carl already has all the files
online.
Pekr
10-May-2007
[541]
Henrik - I expect Carl's notes be revealed with his next speach ....
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[542]
pekr: details are not given yet.
Pekr
10-May-2007
[543]
Gabriele - so only the core.dll becomes closed source? What about
View? All open sourced?
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[544]
afaik, yes.
Henrik
10-May-2007
[545]
240 kb kernel... is this completely barebones and is this bigger
or smaller than R2?
[unknown: 9]
10-May-2007
[546]
The idea is to open source a lot, and just keep the low level stuff
closed, but RT will post something official.
Pekr
10-May-2007
[547]
so now Ruby can finally have their View clone? :-) They will take
rebol.dll, create one function "do-rebol", and voila :-)
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[548x2]
it is the dll only, so it's like R2 Core without the OS dependent
parts
the actual license on code has not been announced.
Pekr
10-May-2007
[550]
Henrik - good question. I would like to know, if there is finally
only one executable, so e.g. View is loadable module/component? Or
what is the situation. I don't understand the architecture. I can
imagine new SDK, where you can decide, what you put inside, but there
are parts like View, external language plug-ins, etc.
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[551]
so it's hard to say if other languages can take advantage of our
code (they're probably not smart enough anyway ;)
Pekr
10-May-2007
[552]
:-)
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[553]
one executable - that would be AltMe 3. but developers will have
more (ie you can have your own exe you compile yourself)
Pekr
10-May-2007
[554]
Why not? rebol.dll was already out there on the net with plug-in.
Jaime posted interface - you could pass it a string with rebol code,
no?
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[555]
some components are internal, some external plugins
Pekr
10-May-2007
[556]
Gabriele - this is actually good, you know? First Ruby guys will
think they got View for Ruby, next they will realise, they don't
actually need Ruby, to just start and use Rebol, so they will drop
Ruby :-)
Henrik
10-May-2007
[557]
I'm a bit confused that REBOL/View == AltME now, so does it mean
that GUI development is moved away from RT?

Henrik -- Maxim has mentioned your styles for Glayout several times,
and demoed them.

Said he was up at 04:00 last night, and it took him 20minutes to
integrate your styles into Glayout.
Gabriele
10-May-2007
[559]
petr, sure, apps would benefit to have rebol in, but would another
language do? i don't know. maybe.
[unknown: 9]
10-May-2007
[560]
(I may have missed this) how many people are in that room?
Henrik

How many "dont" speak English?"
Pekr

[564]
