I also did not know the dots were draggable.

I'm actually in Ottawa, Canada, the down-under was a bit of joke
about being from where I "don't get much sun"

DevCon 2008 in Prague was cancelled. RT decided not to participate
this year at DevCon, as they prefer R3 being finished first. Prague
as a place still stays as a main candidate for next DevCon though.
I expect next DevCon to happen sometimes Spring 2009.

Perhaps it's time we consider an eDevCon.

Perhaps it's also time to consider some REBOL tools for eDevcons.

I like that idea. REmote slide show, Shared white board...

yes, AltmeNG :-) Channels with moderation, etc. It is 12 yeas, but
do you remember famous Amiga shows? We used IRC channels with hundreds
of ppl, yet we were at least possible to moderate ...
Maybe read-only feature for certain groups would be sufficient as
a starter ....
but yes, tools for sharing would be fine. We should look at tools
line MS Collaboration server or Lotus Sametime - kind of multi-icq
app - you drag and drop users there, you can make screenshots, post
them directly to channel, you can draw and post it, you can share
your app to other (probably using RMD (remote desktop) protocol in
Windows)

So our coumminty is so strong that if RT "cancels" Devcon particpation,
we don't have one? Let's solve *that* problem. Devcon 2008 in Prague!

I think would could do it with out Carl, but it would be a lot of
fun to have hi talk about R3...and worth waiting for...
I do like the idea of a Virtual devcon though...
I could get about 5 of the Qtask team to talk about their work with
REBOL....

Well, we should do something every year, virtual or not. Otherwise
we're not taking what we do very seriously.

Well, we can videoconference with Skype in the worst case ;-)

We need a simple system to pass the video feed around, we think we
found a service that works well...we need to talk to Mark (at Qtask)
about what he finally liked best.

I would like to see a presentation system with concurrent audio feed
from the presenter.
recordable

That does exist... at the conference in Croatia in 2004 they already
had that, synced with slides, really nice.

I would in fact much rather have that, than some kind of live videofeed
to see anything on the presenter screen you need it in almost HD
anyway

sounds promising, broadcast via browser (flash)
whiteboard, documentshare etc. and also open source.
could be the right tool for easy videoconferencing
http://www.dimdim.com/
Dimdim Open Source has all the features of our Enterprise version

and can be downloaded and installed on your own servers immediately.

Yes, let's keep DevCon 2008 in Prague. I'm for it.

Hmm, I will have to talk about it with Cyphre. But after all those
years, I wanted to see Carl :-) And if we do 2008 in Prague, next
time it will be another place (hopefully I will be able to visit).
But I also planned small promo, some media interview with Carl, etc.
Anyway - as for RT - there is not DevCon this year ....

We could also use Second Life as these surgeons are for the Devcon
Or, we could all atttend one of those virtual churches and hijack
the proceedings :)

Would anyone be interested in setting aside a day for a virtual Rebcon?
I am quite curious about 3.0 and projects you all are working on
plus if some of the gurus could do a workshop(s) on topics (OK, my
personal fav's) such as:
Cheyenne
Com/DLL
Flash Dialect

Anyway, it's a thought and we have only a few weeks left in 2008

I suspect in exchange of a REAL devcon, most of us would be apt for
a virtual one. We need a GOOD way to allow one person to control
a camera, and voice, and for others to be able to ask questions.
 THen pass the cam on.
I will give a talk on how we are using REBOL.

Excellent Reichart. Does it have to be live? If we just schedule
the talks, that may work. Let's give some quick thought. Do you think
it has to be based on some rebol technology?
Graham is into all sorts of interesting uses of Rebol that I'd like
to hear about as well.
Reichart

Yes, it HAS to be live. This is the power of a conference. THe
real time interaction. To KNOW people are there...now...this is
not to stop some talks from being recorded ahead of time. But you
will lose a lot this way.

You don't see it working that a person could present something that
was recorded and then at the end we could jump onto Altme? I know,
kinda cheesey.
Reichart

[143x2]
Yeah, there is "energy" in knowing you need to be THERE to get your
questions in.
To be there for the jokes, for the stories, etc.

[145]
OK, live it is.
Reichart

We should do it perhaps over several days, around 12:00pm California
time, since this allows for people in Australia to get up early,
and join, and also most of Europe, for whom it will be night.

That sound great. Does 12/27-28 sound good? Saturday and Sunday here
in CA.
Reichart

Hmmm, it would be interesting to have a DevCon at this time, since
many people are at home.

May I suggest, that we do this another way, we create a list and
let everyone post when is best, and when is worst, then we cull this
to set a date. this is SO easy to do in Qtask (we just create a
form for this). In AltME we could create a do list, and let each
person just add their preference and follow a format.
