not sure how fast is this, but you can use vector for diffferent 
int conversions...like:

>> uint16: make vector! [unsigned integer! 16 1]
== make vector! [unsigned integer! 16 1 [
0
]]

>> uint16/1: 300 skip to-binary uint16/1 6
== #{012C}

So the extension is fastest?

maybe to-binary on vector! could do the job best way but this is 
not implemented yet probably

not a better way how to write it in C, like using pointers or something 
like that

Cyphre - I think that vectore type is still not finished. There were 
also some blogs about conversions, but I don't remember the outcome 
....

But for me today starts a new era... I'm really starting to use R3 
since now.

mechanism, which allows you to extend Core?

yes.. it's the extensions posibility... I was doing some heavy math 
with images recently and I think it's time to move and start using 
R3.. at least for new scripts.. which also require to rewrite some 
old which I use often.

did anyone download the protocols that Graham posted before his wiki 
went down?

yes, Carl does not handle communication well. We should not start 
advocacy here though, but in advocacy channel ...

be  upto dated one every 6 month ...

sorry I got the last sentence wrong ... But my point is rebol is 
already full of super great stuffs (desktop, console, web plugins, 
 etc...) that just need to be upto dated once every 6 month. Some 
of them maybe needs a redefinition.

for example I would prefere a webplugin rebol/view  for only firefox 
but available on all OS... Maybe basing rebol VM on non hardware 
related  langagues would allow to speed up things ...

R3 can't read and write back source file, to correct platform terminators? 
I used such aproach in R3 - just read, and write back to the same 
file. In R3 I even tried read/string, but it does not help when I 
wrote file back ....

write %foo.r read/string %foo.r
on Linux. Converted DOS (CRLF) line endings to LF-only for me.

I tried RMA's source under Windows, and no luck ...

R2 turned out being handy, though :-)

Ah yes, WRITE does not do any conversion, but READ does. So you'll 
always end up with LF-only.

Well, shouldn't R3 under Windows turn line terminators (Johns and 
Sarahs :-) into Windows compatible ones?
