DocKimbel 7-Aug-2012 [281x2] | I wonder how many megabytes of source code it would take to write the same in Java? ;-) |
I must say that I had a lot of fun coding that scheme, especially learning CUPS and coding some Postscript custom routines.
Endo 7-Aug-2012 [283] | Hi Doc, it is a great piece of code! Thanks a lot. in readme file it says: http://raw.github.com/dockimbel/printer-driver/master/printer-scheme.r but it doesn't work. I think it should be https instead of http, then it works: https://raw.github.com/dockimbel/printer-driver/master/printer-scheme.r |
DocKimbel 7-Aug-2012 [284] | Thanks Endo, I'm fixing that right now. |
james_nak 28-Aug-2012 [285] | Jerry, looking forward to helping out. |
Jerry 28-Aug-2012 [286] | Thanks. James. I hope opening the book can help Carl make the decsion to open source R3 .. even though the effort I put in the book is not compartable to Carl's effort in R3. |
Arnold 28-Aug-2012 [287] | Hi Jerry, maybe a combined edition in Chinese and English would help more Chinese rebolers to join in the Rebol community. (Make them more comfortable using english.) |
MaxV 28-Aug-2012 [288] | I'm here to help you Jerry |
Henrik 28-Aug-2012 [289] | Jerry, looks like a smart move. My Chinese is a bit rusty to say the least. |
Jerry 28-Aug-2012 [290] | Thanks for willing to help me on the translation. |
Gregg 28-Aug-2012 [291] | I don't know Chinese at all, but can help with final English wording. |
Jerry 28-Aug-2012 [292x4] | Every pages is carefully drawed and layouted. To make the English Edition of it, I have to re-layout every page. Since English Sentence is shorter than it's Chinese one in most of the cases, I will need to re-layout everypage. the aspect should be change from 4:3 to 16:9 or 16:10. This will take some time for me to prepare. |
Carl got my book last Friday, maybe that's why he decided to think about the future of REBOL and wrote that blog article. I hope our opening the R3 book and trying to gain more new users will make him make the second move, opening R3.
Even though I've prepared in my heart for the worst situation.
I am kind of shy and not talkative. But recently I've talked a lot here, because I really don't want to see the death of REBOL.
Arnold 28-Aug-2012 [296] | I am not native English speaking but I can help out a little for a first rough read-through and correction round. |
ddharing 28-Aug-2012 [297] | Jerry, I would like to help with the English editing. Please let me know the next step. |
PeterWood 28-Aug-2012 [298] | Jerry - I will be happy to help, let me know how. |
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [299] | So how is the rebol source code working for you guys? \ |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [300] | What source code? |
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [301x2] | Carl released it last week |
a limited version like Python
Maxim 28-Aug-2012 [303x2] | where? |
and limited how? | |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [305] | Python is not limited |
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [306x2] | I dont know the exact limitations. Just relaying the information from the board of directors |
Maybe they said some other name of code then. Thought it was Python. Is it not on the website anywhere?
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [308] | All we got, a day ago, is a blog article saying that Carl doesn't know what to do, and we should tell him |
Maxim 28-Aug-2012 [309] | I've looked around again and there doesn't seem to be any sign of any new release of any kind from Carl. |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [310] | Nope |
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [311] | Ill ask. The word phython was used, so perhaps there are no restrictions then. |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [312x3] | Python is a full open source project from the start |
In case you haven't found it:
http://www.rebol.com/article/0510.html
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [315] | Posing this question to them now. Will get back to you. |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [316] | Thanks |
NickD 28-Aug-2012 [317] | Just read it. Typical. Should have been done many moons ago |
Kaj 28-Aug-2012 [318] | Yes |
Jerry 28-Aug-2012 [319] | James_nak, Arnold, MaxV, Gregg, ddharing, PeterWood, and Nick, Thanks for willing to help me. |
Arnold 28-Aug-2012 [320] | What source code? The compiled version offered is doing rather fine :/ |
GrahamC 29-Aug-2012 [321x2] | Jerry, can you do Kindle or ePub format? That will make it a lot more accessibe to people who read these days |
Everyone has a phone with them these days
Henrik 29-Aug-2012 [323] | Jerry, I'm curious to what tools you used to write the book? LaTeX? Word? Makedoc? |
Jerry 29-Aug-2012 [324x2] | Henrik, It's PowerPoint. I make a slide with 320 pages. I asked myself not to use bullet-point to make it not a traditional slide. |
I also ask myself to make it readable slide.
Henrik 29-Aug-2012 [326] | wow, interesting |
Jerry 29-Aug-2012 [327] | Henrik, you can see this slide, than you will know my PowerPoint Style. I made this Slide 3 years ago for InfoQ QCon www.slideshare.net/d0nn9n/caixueyong-cep |
Henrik 29-Aug-2012 [328] | Thanks |
Arnold 29-Aug-2012 [329x2] | Looks like the Head First series: http://www.headfirstlabs.com/books/hfprog/ |
That little guy on the top right, that's you Jerry? ;-)
