Graham: 1-Feb-2005 | it can do an incremental backup .. but I don't if it will or will not copy over a later file if they are different
Alberto: 15-Feb-2005 | Perhaps is not the same thing!. To execute a cgi "exe" file, IIS don't need to know where is an interpreter like rebpro.exe or perl.exe
Micha: 20-Feb-2005 | plis sample open , save file dialog ?
Ashley: 20-Feb-2005 | help request-file
Graham: 26-Feb-2005 | what's the best way of restarting a server application each night ? Use something like launch/quit .. between certain hours, but without setting some flag on the file system, how to ensure that it only happens once daily?
Micha: 28-Feb-2005 | how to alter the speed of reproduction the sound of file *.wav ?
Maxim: 17-Mar-2005 | oh its, not my project, its the opposite, trying to find someone to convert a third party mathlab project into a easy to use stand-along rebol dll with only one .h file to translate...
Maxim: 17-Mar-2005 | its current a multi-file ordeal with some mathlab scripts ...
[unknown: 5]: 17-Mar-2005 | Seems that request-file/file doesn't work
ChristianE: 29-May-2005 | Funny question: What's a good iconic metaphor for "Save file"? Okay, we're used to have a floppy-disk-icon to click on, but do all people now-a-days remember what floppy disks were? I can't imagine a working successor, though. An USB-stick pixeled on a 16x16 pixel grid? Not too easily recognised, I assume ... Any suggestions?
Sunanda: 2-Jun-2005 | Brock, the app has an API to its own "flat file" database ... mainly blocks of REBOL objects. On each update transaction (which usually affects several flat files) we record the before images. That makes Undo really just the same as a Rollback. The Undo log keeps the last 100 (or a user selectable number of) transactions, so they can go back a long way if they need to. But,. like a lot of things, the code was experiemental and as such is a pile of kark. One day, I might tidy it up into an API undertstandable by someone other than me, It the meantime, I that's enough high-level clues to help you replicate the logic.
Anton: 2-Jun-2005 | Brock, also trap the window close event and any other way of ending your app, and, at that point, save to the default image. A "Save As.." button can be used to save to a particular file if the user wants.
Pekr: 8-Jun-2005 | That is what I talk about, so an misunderstanding :-) I miss e.g. desktop being in separated file, as is with IOS IIRC ....
Group: !AltME ... Discussion about AltME [web-public]
Sunanda: 1-Nov-2007 | I just discovered (at least) one of my altme chat files was corrupt....One of the lines in the file was truncated halfway through.
Henrik: 20-Dec-2007 | the only way to do that is to export it as HTML and edit the HTML file
Reichart: 20-Dec-2007 | Check what you have associated with your HTM and HTML file types...
Pekr: 20-Dec-2007 | I have registered 10 of 10 possible things for FF, but it still does not work. I noticed there are still 3 entries registered with IE, one of them being .url, but it can't be deselected (is greyed), even if I am admin. I really don't like Vista, it is complete shit. To display file associations it took 20 secs here on 2GB RAM, Core Duo machine ...
Reichart: 20-Dec-2007 | This really should not be a problem in the first place...this really seems like some IE thing. Pekr, what happens if you save an HTM or HTML file, and double click on it?
Pekr: 21-Dec-2007 | Reichart - I am kind of experience user, don't worry. When I click on .html or .htm (or any other form), FF gets started. Vista usese a bit different form of registration imo. It e.g. states, that my FF has 9 from 10 possible registrations, so I added even another one. However, I might know, what AltME is using. I checked on what is still registered with IE, and it is - .mht, .mhtml, .url. So my suspicion is, that what AltME or OS does, is that it uses .url. When I rename .html file to .url, it gets IE icon. I will have to wait for my folks to return, because I don't know, why the .url option is greyed in IE section - maybe some Active Directory policy rule, dunno ...
Pekr: 21-Dec-2007 | I have also edited file extensions for .url, .mhtml, .mhtm, and registered those with FF too ... still no luck from AltME :-) What function does AltME use? Just REBOL's 'browse?
Pekr: 21-Dec-2007 | Edgaer pointed me two times to the same link. Reading thru all the text twice, it does not answer any question. The link rather stupidly suggests to users, that you have to be admin etc etc. and more or less describes, how to change default program. Did that, xy times. Did that for each one possible file suffix. Once again - file system worked all fine, it is just AltME, having problems.
james_nak: 25-Jan-2008 | What's the file size limit in Altme nowadays?
Henrik: 23-Feb-2008 | it would be nice to see a list of files that you are about to download in the file sharing module. there's nothing useful about seeing dialogs with "There are 5 files to download.".
Brock: 24-Feb-2008 | Paul, I believe it is just a limitation of this World. I have file sharing available on a personal world that I maintain.
Geomol: 6-Mar-2008 | Louis, if you look in the file "users.set" under a AltME world, the user number is an integer, so I guess with current implementation, max is 2'147'483'647.
Edgar: 7-Apr-2008 | Something weird corrupted my AltME login to this world. I had to delete the file "state" and let AltMe recreate it. This happened right after the new AltME update. Before I deleted it, it was logging me in but keeps giving me an internal error about state path being none while I am already logged in. I sent the error to feedsback 3 times. Deleting the "state" file fixed it for me.
Sunanda: 7-Apr-2008 | Ingo <I'm not talking about these 3 lines for this exact problem, but about understanding enough to find the same info for another post> Apologies for delay in replying. *** The URL for the web archive has this parameter for the post in question: post=r3wp157x10054 And the two lines of code are: core-chat: reduce load/all %157.set text: last core-chat/10055 As you can see, the GROUP-ID is 157 and the POST-ID is 10054 -- but add 1 for the REBOL code as the file has a header line. *** To get the GROUP-ID either RIGHT-CLICK the group name in ALTME. Or find the group name in the Web archive: http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/aga-groups-index.r?world=r3wp Does that demystify it? As Reichart implies -- it's easy when you know how :-)
Henrik: 15-Apr-2008 | What exactly can cause "AltME Error: Registray cannot load dataset files: 2" during startup? I'm getting it so many times on various machines, I'm starting to think it's a bug in AltME rather than data file corruption by something else. Whenever it happens when I'm trying to log into a specific world, it's "jinxed" and I can't log into it anymore on that machine. It does not help to just delete the whole dir, redownload AltME and start from scratch.
xavier: 28-Apr-2008 | hi everybody ... i met some problems with altme : problems with a dataset file
Gregg: 2-May-2008 | I think I found the trick to serving multiple worlds, even if they weren't set up correctly at first. In the info file in %altme/servers/<your-world>/, change 5400 to, e.g., 5401. When you start the world again, it seems to use that port. I haven't tried it with a shortcut start yet.
Brock: 2-May-2008 | I believe the file is config.txt in Windows. There is a server-port option.
Henrik: 28-Jul-2008 | I think I figured out a problem with my registry.set file. It goes read-only sometimes after an AltME crash, which makes AltME impossible to start. I wonder what causes that. (I think there are multiple different causes why AltME suddenly won't start).
[unknown: 5]: 16-Aug-2008 | Anyone know a way around the file size limitation in ALTME? i tried to upload a large file and got a message that there was a limitation in this version of ALTME.
Brock: 17-Aug-2008 | I believe the file size is configurable by the world owner isn't it?
amacleod: 29-Jan-2009 | IS ther a way to change the permissions to a shared file/folder after its been uploaded. I set it up for 'myself' not realizing it would not be available on other computeres I signed onto. I should have made it abvailable to my user name I guess.
amacleod: 1-Feb-2009 | I've been using Altme for a project with a guy who is very non-tech. He did not know how to drag a window. Anyway, it is working out great. We are using File sharing to re-format a bunch of text files and with the abilty to add comments and check lists its saving a lot of time over traditional Email. He is still not really up to speed so once he is it wil really shine. And with the abiltty to just add new members where they can read any old messages to see where we are and what we have been doing. I regret not using it for my Appraisal business. My partner and I had to email files back and forth all the time. And sometimes we needed to get files from one another but one of us was away or not at our computer. If we used Altme we would never have had that problem.
ManuM: 20-Feb-2009 | Vladimir: CTRL+C works for me ( Kubuntu 8.10 ), but I only can paste ( CTRL+V ) at any area of Altme ( New message area, Your current status area, Search area, ... ). If I want to copy one url to paste at other program, I export messages ( top-right button ) and save to a file ( I think html file is better ). Then I can open the file and copy the url
Graham: 7-Apr-2009 | But presumably you could just look at the dates on the file sets and publish just those.
Sunanda: 8-Apr-2009 | The code you need is very simple.... As Graham suggests, just check the timestamp on the nnn.set files. If you want to tell your rellies how many messages are outstanding, check the timestamp on the entries in each .set file [teh file itself is a REBOL block, so very easy to load). Just one possible gotcha -- you may not want to be disclosing details of your personal messages (eg don't tell your mom whenever you have had a private chat with your dad), nor of private groups (Gran should not even know about the private group arranging her 90th birthday party).
Oldes: 4-May-2009 | But you may try to check, which data file modifies and how.
BrianH: 4-May-2009 | AltME uses blocking calls to file operations, and USB flash drives are much slower than hard drives, or even internal flash drives. Sometimes they are 2 or more orders of magnitude slower.
eFishAnt: 8-May-2009 | I verified all 4 earlier, including the file in the servers folders...but let me reverify...
eFishAnt: 8-May-2009 | the ports in the "log" file for each server matches the ports for all 4 of these that show up in the http://www.altme.com/check.html
eFishAnt: 9-May-2009 | I mean file permissions, like chmod (read, write execute for files)
Sunanda: 18-May-2009 | Of course there are some limitations: 1. if a post does not have a rebol [] to identify the start of the code, we may fail in executing text 2. ditto if there is text after the script 3. assumed to be ascii file (not UTF-8 etc) right now 4. post may take 12 to 18 hours to appear on REBOL.org archive
ddharing: 26-May-2009 | Some have asked questions in the past about the file size limit in AltMe. It appears to be 6 megs.
ddharing: 26-May-2009 | That's a similar feature as the newsgroup readers. Along those same lines, AltMe could just download the file list with comments instead of the files themselves.
Henrik: 26-May-2009 | It's definitely a technical limitation. There was a limited release of a version with a much bigger file size limit, but AFAIR, it was unstable and quickly retracted.
Geomol: 29-May-2009 | Look in the file "users.set". Last date field seems to be, when people was active.
Gregg: 2-Jun-2009 | I also have CDR for change-dir+to-rebol-file.
amacleod: 16-Jul-2009 | I hate Vista.... Anyone else have this prob: Using altme to share many files. I see them in altme but they do not exist in the proper altme file folder. From what I've gathered Vista with UAC enabled (default) does not allow programs that do not comply with their new security API to write to certain folders such as "program files" whrere Altme is installed. So if I try to open it with notepad, notpad can not see it as it does not really exist in that folder that altme tells notpads that its in. Vista re-routes altme to the "safe" location without altme knowing this. Anyone have a work around... I could turn off UAC but that is suppose to be bad (security reasons). I guess I could move altme to a non secure folder (not sure what that would be? I think the Desktop has the same issues... maybe just C:??
BudzinskiC: 31-Oct-2009 | Anyone else seen a trojan warning for AltMe pop up in their antiv virus software? Microsoft Security Essentials just told me that there's a virus in one of the AltMe chat files. Any idea how to see to which group the file belongs? The file is called 380.set.
Sunanda: 31-Oct-2009 | 380.set is the "Chat (Not web-public)" It is _unlikely_ to have a virus, as it is basically a text file consisting of REBOL blocks (you can load it into a text file to take a look) But who knows how clever virus writers are these days? Yes, I've seen some false positives with REBOL products before.
Sunanda: 31-Oct-2009 | If you look in the file: altme/worlds/rebol3/users.set you can see the group-id to titles mapping. Again, just a text file.
BudzinskiC: 31-Oct-2009 | Yeah I'm sure it's just a false positive, I wasn't concerned or anything. I use Windows only for playing games, it doesn't have access to any important files and I use sandboxie for stuff I'm not sure about. Before MSE I used AntiVir and that one does report even more false positives, pretty annoying. Usually a company can contact anti virus software companies about these false positives in their products, do you know by any chance if that was done for REBOL in the past? And thanks for the info about the file/group mapping :)
BudzinskiC: 1-Nov-2009 | BrianH, I still got the chat file in the MSE quarantine, I'll take a look at it next time I boot into Windows and look if there's any javascript code in it. At the moment I don't use it that often since Windows 7 keeps rebooting every few hours and messes up my new harddrive, seems to be a common problem with Windows 7. And it worked so nice for a couple of days, meh.
Mchean: 30-Nov-2009 | file:C:\Altme\worlds\rebol3\chat\380.set->(SCRIPT0001)
Henrik: 1-Dec-2009 | There was discussion about a JS exploit a while ago. It could be in that file.
Graham: 8-Dec-2009 | now if I don't run as admin, it says it can't write to the state file.
Maxim: 9-Dec-2009 | to me the problem is that MS should have created a real application framework... actually, only Apple with OSX seems to be really close to this. there should be THREE root directories and only three dirs for each application. windows has dozens, which is crazy. 1. Application SOURCE data (.exe, libs, datafile, etc) 2. Application STORAGE data (game saves, defaults 3. Application Temporary data, flushed on program quit by the OS. within Storage, you'd have application and user-based storage and that's it. The os refuses to execute any file not within application source dir, so you have already clamped down on a lot of security issues. a list of approved .exe is stored whenever you launch an application for the first time. for a bit more flexibility, several application dirs could exist, so that you can do stuff like compile items and run them locally within your dev environment, but these dirs would be explicitely registered within the os. on install the Application should be required to ask permission (like flash) in how much space will be stored within STORAGE if it exceeds a max default, independently of SOURCE. The implementation of MyXxxx folders is completely horrendous, and should be a simple and ubiquitous form that has one entry for each media type, and a browser where you want to put your stuff (which might not be user-specific). IIRC this was addressed in Vista, but then they went and added aliases to everything, which raises errors in the explorer, cause you can't use them. They alias core windows directories in other languages, the result being that explorer and actual disk info are different! this completely fucks up many applications (like rebol). windows has a hard time "fixing" things... they always just patch it... its worse since they have a hard time starting with any good implementation of anything to begin with.
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | actually, it's: altme/prefs/debug (no suffix, but as a text file) Then, in that file: events: [boot error ... above list ]
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | btw, altme will notice the debug file, and rewrite it with all debug fields
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | look at log file.
Pekr: 28-Dec-2009 | btw - debug file did not change ...
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | move your debug file to the altme/servers/vertuzo directory, then restart the world
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | btw, remove the debug file from your other dir, or your clients may log too much info
Carl: 28-Dec-2009 | After startup, debug file is: ; AltME Debugging and Logging Options debug: 0 file: %log.txt events: [boot error note start halt wns wns-ping] echo: none net: none time: none
Pekr: 28-Dec-2009 | yes, the same location as debug file itself ...
Pekr: 28-Dec-2009 | debub file: ; AltME Debugging and Logging Options debug: 0 file: %log.txt events: [boot error note start halt wns wns-ping] echo: none net: none time: none
Will: 19-Jan-2010 | osx10.6.2/intel it says "A change has occurred that requires you to download a newer version of the software. Download it now?" than it says this file is not found http://www.altme.com/download/altme025
Mchean: 3-Feb-2010 | once again altme reports a trojan on Vista: Category: Trojan Description: This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker. Recommendation: Remove this software immediately. Microsoft Security Essentials detected programs that may compromise your privacy or damage your computer. You can still access the files that these programs use without removing them (not recommended). To access these files, select the 'Allow' action and click 'Apply actions'. If this option is not available, log on as administrator or ask the local administrator for help. Items: file:C:\Altme\worlds\rebol3\chat\380.set->(SCRIPT0001) Get more information about this item online.
Sunanda: 3-Feb-2010 | I've run a virus scan against that file, and the software I am using does not detect any threats.
Henrik: 23-Apr-2010 | Interesting that for some reason AltME sees graphviz .dot files as word documents in its file sharing.
Mchean: 1-Jun-2010 | Just a note, I had to reinstall Altme again because of computer failure. And like the previous times I got the following note from my antivirus: Category: Trojan Description: This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker. Items: containerfile:C:\Program Files\altme\worlds\rebol3\chat\380.set file:C:\Program Files\altme\worlds\rebol3\chat\380.set->(SCRIPT0001) Get more information about this item online.
Sunanda: 2-Jun-2010 | Glad it's close enough for your current purpose. If you need better searches for a specific research project, consider writing a few lines of REBOL and scanning your own local copy of /altme/worlds/rebol3/ The users.set file is simply a text file from which you can map group numbers and poster-ids/poster names /chat/*.set is a series of text files, one per chat group. It is pretty easy to do. Or take a look at modifying this: http://www.rebol.org/view-script.r?script=skimp-my-altme.r
Anton: 3-Jun-2010 | I'm developing an app for searching AltME. You can apply multiple filters to select an intersection of: world, group, user, message-text, date and message-id. At this point, it's actually usable, but I still need to improve the user interface so you can see and enter the filters properly. Currently, I'm still entering the filters in a source file.
DideC: 3-Jun-2010 | I'm a lazzy guy, so I didn't take the time to put this on Rebol.org, but I have a script to read and display/export the local altme files. http://membres.multimania.fr/didec/rebol/altme-chat-reader.r Installation : the simple use is to put the script in your altme install folder and run it. You can browse any group in any altme worlds configured on your system. You can scroll the entire list of messages in a group (scrool wheel enable). Messages are displayed like in altme (formating). You can export the group in an Html file with formating kept. Missing : doesn't diplay private chats (user chats). Bugs : right click menu close the program after use (anoying isn't it ?) There is no search function. But if you have time, you can mix this script with the skimp-altme-file script on rebol.org.
Anton: 3-Jun-2010 | amacleod, I think you saved the file after loading it with a webbrowser or something. Do this instead: load-thru/update url: http://membres.multimania.fr/didec/rebol/altme-chat-reader.r path-thru url and open that file in your editor.
BrianH: 27-Jul-2010 | AltME is a tiny program that doesn't handle any file extensions. It should be installing under C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local (for the Brian user, i.e.). You can get that value from the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" key, in the "Local AppData" value.
MaxV: 2-Sep-2010 | Hello everybody, anytime I start AltMe I receive the message that there is a file to download. If I click yes, I obtain (you aren't allowed). If I click no, next time I start AltMe I obtain again the message. Is there a way to stop this pop-up?
Group: View ... discuss view related issues [web-public]
Anton: 14-Apr-2005 | I press [No], then it opens a file requester, so I press "Cancel" and that minimizes the edit-tools app. Is this an april fools joke that no-one discovered in time ?
Volker: 14-Apr-2005 | thats the first-time opened file, if you use the multi-file-version. missing files are created. then it thinks that missing file on disk is diferent to that empty edited file and -hu, more problems?
Volker: 14-Apr-2005 | can you open a real file with the requester?
Anton: 14-Apr-2005 | Here's the problem, surely: button "open" [save-file/? ta sr open-file refresh]
Volker: 14-Apr-2005 | open tries to save the last file. it thinks it is modified, instead its missing. but text <> attempt[read file], so..
eFishAnt: 6-May-2005 | Doc's Win95 demo (in Demo's folder of ViewTop breaks on layout/trace, looks like build is involved, but the file is %win95.zip ... on some recent /Views, didn't test all the way back to where it works, but has anyone fixed or know much about it?
Henrik: 8-May-2005 | no such file. created an empty user.r and now it won't start at all
Volker: 8-May-2005 | debian? you lack a config-file for teminal which name i forgot.
Anton: 9-May-2005 | As a minimum copy the notes into a text file...
Anton: 11-May-2005 | Henrik, I've saved an extract to a text file, but I probably won't publish it for a while. Eventually it will go up, though...
DideC: 7-Jun-2005 | It's not a final version, but is completely usable. What is not finish is the editor for the rules. So, this rules are stored in the rules.txt file (this file appear after your run it one time) and should be edit manually.
Ammon: 12-Jun-2005 | Ok, that was weird! I just started View and it told me there was a new version to be downloaded and when I clicked download it popped up a file requester asking me where I want to download view.exe to. The weird part is the default path it popped up was C:/Program Files/Common Files/System/Mapi/1033/NT Where the hell did that come from?
Ashley: 12-Jun-2005 | Does %user.r work with View 1.3. I add the following line to %/c/rebol/view/user.r print "User.r called" then double-click the %rebol.exe file in the same directory ... but no message.
ChristianE: 12-Jun-2005 | Hi Petr, hi shadwolf. Back agin. Petr, just FYI (and mine, too) I had a quick look: MOLD/FLAT makes 43 KB from my source file, COMPRESS MOLD/FLAT leaves some 9'500 bytes ;-)
Pekr: 13-Jun-2005 | I think I will file a bug - that is not normal, or I just don't wish it would be normal - Rebol really can't block system buttons during its internal activity. That is weird, imo wrong and annoying.
BrianW: 18-Jun-2005 | hm. Okay, I get lots of code with "source ctx-edit", but I can't figure out how to get it into a file. I keep trying stuff like --> write %edit.r source ctx-edit
[unknown: 5]: 19-Jun-2005 | I think the upgrade utility should drop the acknowledgement "name of the file" part as it looks sloppy because I saved the file as "view2.exe" because the currently file couldn't be overwritten and it said I saved the file as "view.exe". Just gives a bad impression of what else might be buggy.
Graham: 30-Jun-2005 | file it again if it's not there. That's the only source they now use.
Izkata: 3-Aug-2005 | Searched around in Notepad (write %System.txt mold system) to find this: >> skip find mold system {RebOSFiles} -30 == { view-root: %/c/Izkata/Rebol/RebOSFiles/ pop: unset screen-face: unset save-user: func [ "... >> ? view-root ;Thar ye go =^) VIEW-ROOT is a file of value: %/c/Izkata/Rebol/RebOSFiles/
MikeL: 7-Aug-2005 | Thanks again... my plan on the VID quiz was to post it on the script library when I get it working in 1.3. Then if it is worthwhile some new special effects can be added like blinking or sound or some graphing of results and journalling of scores. The hard part is still looking at the subject material and extracting questions that lead to some understanding of the material. But once that is done, a student can review dozens or hundreds of questions repeatedly in a different order each time. And a new quiz can be added just using a text file in rebol block format. And of course, the VID script and the data files could be internet read instead of being local. |
