The resume is a cached one, it doesn't exist anymore. AFAIK it is pretty
normal for people to wonder if it is time to do something else after a three
years or so.

There's one that I have written. The topic is
broader than just rebol, but I plug rebol..

I make references to what I think are unexploited
needs for programming.
Rebol and otherwise.

After sending my email I thought about similar reply. Well, if it can be found
on web, it is publicable imo. I think that main difference in my and yours pov
is lays mainly in political history of our countries ...
In our country, ppl don't change jobs so often. Maybe younger generation of ppl
does so, but still many ppl here don't change their jobs more then two or so
times during their productive life. It is artefact of communism imo, as there
was no motivation for ppl to go and try something else. In the area I live, many
many ppl regard loosing job as personal tragedy ....
Of course Jeff or anyone else here has absolute right to do whatever he/she
wants. I just would miss him. The problem is, I come from Amiga land, and I know
what the community means. I regard RT being part of community family. Do you
remember what happened once Fleecy was sacked by Gateway Amiga Inc.? You could
probably note, that many ppl following Rebol followed Carl in the first place,
when he left VisCorp.
Rebol is personal. Rebol is person. That's why some of us are nervous from time
to time - we want Rebol to be real success.
I hope Jeff or anyone else doesn't feel offended by my email ...
Cheers,

Yikes!! Not a good thought for me to entertain. I've invested a huge
amount of time learning rebol and implementing it.
Soon we will use rebol and perl together to help people save
other people's lives....
And I'm teaching an online class with 9 students. All excited about
learning rebol.
On the other hand, back in my Window$ programming days, I used
XTree for years after Symantec abandoned it....

Don't feel bad!
Having said that, I think that Ladislav is correct in his
assessment. Even if someone leaves RT, turnover is a reality
in USA, I know that at least one other RT member has moved
on, and I know that Carl attracts much talent.

Re: What can be found on web soothsaying
Relax people,
it definateately does not mean REBOL will disappear. Even if REBOL did go
bankrupt, somebody would buy the software assets. If REBOL went up sale today, I
would be raising money to buy it tomarrow. I am sure I am not alone either.
Purely worst case scenerio, Microsoft buys it and puts it in there secret
technologies bunker, never to be seen again. If that happened, within days there
would be a major project going on to write an open source REBOL. Heck, if that
was the case Carl would probably head the project. REBOL is his baby, he is not
going to give up on it that easy.
This really is just a shift from development staff (Bo and Kris) to marketing
oriented staff (Scot and Tom). The only reasonable conclusion we can draw from
this is that RT operates on a limited budget and they are preparing to generate
revenues from existing or soon to be released products. Sounds allot like good
news to me.

.. or perhaps a brilliant trojan horse strategy to promote Rebol ;-)
Makes sense in a way - put one of your top programmer hired to do major
development inside another business whose needs could best be met by using
Rebol. In effect they pay for further development and testing hands-on of
major commercial application. A while later, a hot new item gets added to
the Rebol news page. It is also a simple low-tech way to test the
response-waters if anyone is interested in Rebol etc.
This is similar to what Digital Creations have been ding with Zope
development and commmercial consulting. They gave Zope away - opensource +
free. That generated publicity good will and seeded a crcuial developement
community. Menwhile they landed web development contractss, typcailly for TV
adn radio sites which paid them to grow Zpe in an evnvironment of direct
user-needs. Thte openSruocing of Zope was a condition/idea of their vernture
capitalist. Most Zoesites are non profits. Digital Crations very recently
changed their name to Zope Corp to calrify their business position.

Last time I check, none of these credited Zope. Excpet for cbsnweyork, none
of these even anounced or publicized on teh Zope mailing list, even as many
developers were looking for commercial sites as arguments to convince their
bosses whty they shoudl use a technology they had never heard of and which
had no books about it. [sound familiar]
Anyway, the more I explore Rebel the cooler I think it is, and the brighter
its future.
But then I am old Amiga user so what do I know :-)?

I can imagine a large interest in online classes...I'm just starting with
REBOL, and having a wonderful time trying to find documentation. I love the
product though, most fun I've had since I had to learn perl under fire.

Always a risk when R&D is invested in a new product....

Rebol is the best thing I've seen happen in programming in a long
time. IMHO
Any criticisms that I have felt or expressed of rebol or RT
(speaking for myself here), I believe come from the fact that
RT has really done it the hard way. They seem to have gotten
their start as a "startup company", probably with venture
capital.
This is very different from the way that (as far as I know)
perl and python developed. (I believe they developed primarily
from the educational environment)
RT's approach has been very admirable, very daring, and
having been part of a "startup" (that failed BTW), I can
identify with it, and besides the implementation itself,
that's why I remain "loyal".

Yes, but the problem is that the crew should increase, not
decrease. I'm waiting for an answer from Cindy since last week. I
need to know the licensing options I have for a project I want to
start.
Others are in such a situation too, or even worse. Even people who
have helped REBOL and RT a lot. When there was Bo at RT, we at
least go answers.
Now the only sign of life from RT are the emails from Holger to
the list... I have great faith in Carl and the guys at RT but if
they are starting to upset some of the early adopters... I wonder
what happens to new costumers...
Regards,
Gabriele.

This early adopter is not at all upset. I have had occasion to visit RT on a
business and personal capacity and even enjoyed lunch with Carl and the RT
folks. I would like to think I am still a great asset to REBOL in the form
of a custom solutions consultant using REBOL as the main tool in my toolbox.
As such, I feel I have made a great impact in the local marketplace to the
benefit of REBOL. 95% of the work I do is done using REBOL products.
We can all do our part to be incessant evangelists of REBOL in our workplace
and with our professional contacts. A good percentage of the people I work
for are 100% sold on REBOL as a business solution, mostly through a
demonstrated ability to supply a great solution in a brief development period
and therefore at a very reasonable cost.
Speaking of which, I am looking to diversify my clientele and pick up some
additional projects. If anyone has needs for an experienced REBOL
consultant, please contact me!

Indeed, this is what I have been doing. I have now convinced them
that REBOL is the way to go, and pushed to start a REBOL project.
They asked info about licensing (of course!), so I mailed to
Cindy... then tried on Express... but I'm still waiting. What
should I say to my "boss"?

Are you waiting for licensing options from Cindy? Make sure you ask again if
you are still waiting. I can imagine with how busy RT is that sometimes some
requests could get overlooked.

Most of the licensing of REBOL I've been involved with is simply purchasing
the general licenses for business use. Anything more involved depends on the
individual project and company as far as I understand.
