well, connecting /View to /Command via TCP/IP ports is simply a kludge
and I hope just a temporarily state of REBOL development ...
as for databases - if some db server is listening on some port, you
could be imho even faster than ODBC connection providing you with
abstraction. if my friend was not wrong - so popular PHP is connecting
natively
to various databases via sockets, although I don't know if
true ...

Yup, that's true. There's no other good (portable and reliable)
way to do IPC in Unix. Even the communication between X and
applications is done thru TCP/IP (this is why X works remotely
too).

you'll have to dig the comments in the source files. :-)
