Has anyone tried Euphoria language?

 [1/3] from: petr::krenzelok::trz::cz at: 18-Jan-2002 19:19

Hi, one of OSNews comments suggested to look at Euphoria language. So I did so. Authors claim the intrepreted language is somehow magically 20 times faster than perl or python :-) Fun stuff anyway - interesting sources, demos, and default distro comes in some 600 KB package. One of docs described EDB (Euphoria database), single file, multi-table, easily readable system - exactly the kind of stuff we held here few days back :-) So, those interested in yet-another-language and having some free time to spend, look here: http://www.rapideuphoria.com -pekr-

Hi Pekr, I've got Euphoria here, and played with it just a little. I liked what I saw, and was impressed by the number and variety of demos people had contributed. If it weren't for REBOL, I might still be playing with it. :) --Gregg

Hmmm... From what I can see... Pros: * High speed compileable interpeted language. * Easy to learn, especially if you know BASIC or pascal. * Has a series! like data type called a sequence. * Linux, DOS, and Windows versions. * Interfaces with OS and C functions well, including DLL's and SO's. Makes good glue. * Variables are easy to use--no size restrictions. Cons: * Most programs tend to be very OS dependent. * No Native networking (internet) functionality. * Windows must be drawn by OS--tons of code involved. Overall I see niche uses for it. Seems to take alot of code to do anything neat though. --Ryan Petr Krenzelok wrote:
