Black Hawk Download: Pirated Videos Thrive Online

The high-tech vanguard of entertainment consumers who initiated a global
music-swapping spree with the help of Napster a little over two years ago is
branching out into television shows and movies. Napster's service was
limited to music, and it was shut down last year after a federal judge found
it liable for contributing to copyright infringement. But Morpheus enables
users to trade files of any kind, and an increasing number of them are
filled with copyrighted video entertainment.

REBOL and Morpheus Join Forces
To create the largest programmable content network.
<quote>
California, USA - October 31, 2001 - REBOL Technologies and StreamCast
Networks (formerly MusicCity.com) today announced a partnership to create
the world's largest peer-to-peer X Internet content network. StreamCast,
makers of Morpheus and next generation peer-to-peer content distribution
networks, will base Morpheus 2.0 on REBOL's X Internet operating system
(IOS) technology to provide interactive programmable content to more than 30
million users by the end of the year.

Its kinda like shooting all people who make hammers because of hammer
related deaths.
Perhaps we should just ban the internet and go back to writing letters?

As I understand it, (ie - probably wrongly:), the IOS/Morpheus link
will enable Morpheus to rightly claim they're more than just a
file-sharing service because they'll be providing distributed
computing as well. Unless the law is an ass, this should ensure the
guilty parties in an exchange of copyrighted material are those
making it available and those receiving it and not the distribution
method.

Hey! Stop spreading my ideas! They're all copyrighted! You can't view
them on this mailing list! It's distributing my copyrighted info! ...
Errm... Hang on a second... :/

The law, it is oft observed, *is* an ass; and
yet I think that IOS/Morpheus and other more
robust (than previous) distributed computing and
file sharing systems are getting to the point
that courts and legislators will have to realize
that punishing file sharing services merely
because they can be used to distribute
illegal materials (as well as others) is
like punishing the Post Office because people
might send illegally acquired materials
through the mail.
